Hi! Who is applying to Weatherford for the spring 2011 semester?
I took the TEAS yesterday and didn't do as well as I was hoping. I am going to retake it and hopefully then I will have 18 or 19 points. It seems that the point system has changed and is only 23 possible points now, rather than 26.
I really don't know if 18 or 19 will be enough, but I haven't completed Micro so that is going to hurt me. I figure it is worth a try though! You can't win if you don't play! lol.
So who else is applying? How many points does everyone have?
simcr, I would strive for 19-20 points overall if you're wanting to make it into the Spring 2012 semester. I had 17 points, was on the Alternate list for Spring 2011 start, and never got bumped up. There is less movement on the alternate list for that semester (not saying that the alternates don't get called, just saying that it is a bit more competitive since there are less seats). This would require at least 90% or better on 2, if not 3 sections of the TEAS test, and 80% or better on another. WC puts a lot of emphasis on the entrance exam scores.
Good Luck!
Sherri, thanks for asking, the class is ok. I am just aggrevated that no matter how hard i try, i cannot score above an 87 on his test! I am hoping for the next class i may be able to get an A. I have a C from a math class 10 years ago, so to get the max points on GPA i need an A in micro or i have to retake math over summer 1. So i am trying to avoid taking math again.
I got my acceptance letter from Weatherford yesterday in the mail. I also applied to Tarleton, and am waiting to here back from there. If I get accepted to Tarleton I'll have to pick which one to go to. Weatherford is MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper, but Tarleton offers a Bachelors degree. I have heard though that many hospitals will pay for the ADN to BSN bridge program. I have tried looking for people that knew anything about Weatherford's program to see if it was good because i"m leaning more towards Weatherford because of the cost because I already have a TON of loans. Does anyone know how Weatherford's program is? I looked on the Nursing Board's site, and Weatherford NCLEX pass rate is close to 100% for the last five years, but Tarleton's is 80%. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!! THANKS!!!
Congrats and Welcome heather89!
I only know what I have learned here about WC, and it is supposed to be a great program. I have met one person in Tarleton's program and she really loves it there. Either would be a great school to go to, so I think it just depends on your personal needs.
I am also curious about the hospitals paying for the crossover to a BSN. I have heard you have to work for the hospital for a certain amount of time (6-12 mos), there is some type of acceptance into the program from both the hospital and the school, and of course you need the place you work to be in the program. I am not sure how good my source was though, it was causual conversation, and need to look into it more myself.
When are Tarleton letters expected to arrive? Have they told you?
I was looking at the Texas Tech one too. I have all my prereqs so I'd just have to take the nursing courses. Did you get into Weatherford's program for this semester? A lot of hospitals will pay for it because they want you to continue your education. I know Baylor does it. I spoke with my aunt and she said that I'd save money, as well as start making money 7 months sooner if I went to Weatherford. And that once I started my ADN-BSN program it would only take 5 months longer or so than if I continued going to Tarleton those last 7 months. So I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with Weatherford.
Do you know how many students Weatherford accepts? I was really surprised I got it, I didn't really expect to. I'm not sure how many points I had. I felt better about my chances to Tarleton than Weatherford, I think a LOT more people apply to Weatherford.
I will need statistics or physics for Texas Tech, can't remember which they required. I have a BS degree from TCU so I have everything else, and took a lot of my sciences at Texas Tech. With my "new sciences" I've got enough for a science minor, so Tech is my #1 choice.
I got on W'ford's alternate list. So my wait continues.
I had a hard time finding hospitals that I "KNEW" were in an education program. But I may not have dug deep enough. I have time... :)
Weatherford accepts 40 into their program, and normally about 20 alternates. They had about 130 applicants for Fall 2011. I would have thought Tarleton would be much more competitive to get into being a 4yr. college, but I could be wrong.
