Weatherford ADN Fall 2015

Published

Hi everyone. Just wanted to start a post for the 2015 Associates degree of Nursing Fall program at Weatherford College and see who else will be applying!

I have 31 points before my TEAS. I probably wont be taking it for a couple more months. I've finished all of my pre and co requisites and have my 15 hours of BSN credits so I'm super excited to finally be able to apply :)

I wonder what the point cut off will be this semester? I'm hoping to get at least 6 points off my TEAS but 8 would be great! Comment if you're applying this upcoming semester! Cant wait!

Hey everyone, it has been a while because I was involved in an accident and my car got totaled. Some guy wasn't paying attention and rear-ended me on 635 towards Dallas. I had so much going on but thank God everything is good now. I see that everyone got accepted, yeah!!! I got accepted too!! Tlizs, you are so helpful, thanks for all those tips! I'm trying to finish up all my paper work ASAP so I can relax and wait for orientation! Can't wait to meet you all, hope y'all are friendly because we gonna need each other to get through this 2yrs torture lol. Best of luck to everyone!!!!

@TLisZ any recommendations of things we should look at over the summer? Such as a good drug booklet, anything pharm related for those of us who have not taken it yet, or maybe something math/equations related that would be helpful?

let me pull out my syllabus and see what we started with....it's been so long I can't really remember....as for pharm...HONESTLY I wouldn't worry too much about it first semester.....we don't have a pharm class....we do drug cards with our clinical paperwork and we do pharm modules on ATI....but you can repeat them as many times as you need to make 100.....you have an ATI pharm test toward the end of the semester but again you can repeat it until you make 100....pharm just isnt a big focus first semester.

If you wanted to work on dosage calc just to make sure you have a basic understanding of it thats not a bad idea....trying the different methods to see which one works best for you...but you won't really encounter that until toward the end of the semester and you will have quite a bit of class time to work on it (if they do the same as they did this semester) but to have basic understanding will make it SUPER easy for you. Brush up on your unit conversions (grams-mg....lbs-kg.....things like that) that was seriously the hardest part of the dosage calc test for me...it's been a REALLY long time since I used any of that...

I used DosageHelp.com - Helping Nursing Students Learn Dosage Calculations to get a basic understanding...youtube has some good tutorials too

this is another one that helped me

http://wps.prenhall.com/wps/media/objects/1145/1173501/dosagecalculations.pdf

the formula method makes the most sense to me.....you just have to try them all until you figure out which one you're most comfortable with

I like the Mosbys drug books....and you need one that is within the last 5 years i think is what they requested...I bought mine at half price books for $7....it's a couple years old but does the job...I'll end up buying an up to date copy at some point but saving money for now was much more appealing lol

but I wouldn't worry too much about pharm for now......

anyway I will pull out the syllabus in a little bit and see what we started with so you can get an idea of what to be familiar with for the beginning of the semester

And let me know where to send a gift card. Do you like Starbucks or Sonic? :)

tissue integrity and thermoregulation was our first big test.....review the anatomy of skin (Layers/functions) being familiar with all of that will make that section easy. Review your basic anatomy for the whole body...if you remember those things it will make it easier to build on it with the "nursing info" you learn. honestly....and I know a lot of people will say this.....and you will think NO! I just need to be prepared....but relax...enjoy your free time...it will be hectic once you get into the semester and you will miss all of the free time

There was RARELY a day that I didn't do SOMETHING school related.....reading....drug cards...clinical paper work....ATI/PrepU....I worked on things EVERY day....but it helped me not have to CRAM for exams....and I finished the semester with a 4.0 so it paid off....but MAN the free time since the semester has ended feels SO good...it's been A LONG time since I had NOTHING to do...or could take a nap guilt free lol

And let me know where to send a gift card. Do you like Starbucks or Sonic? :)

Not necessary! but I appreciate it....I seriously don't mind sharing what I know a bit.....

Does anyone know what Clinical I covers?

Is anyone doing the Student Insurance Plan (Transamerica) administered by EJ Smith & Associates ?

I talked to Department Nursing Director at WC, They confirmed that we will be using E-book format only. The books will be different than past students as well as current ones. They will try to give me ISBN codes so that we can try to run down a hard copy book for study only. That being said, they said to not rely on those as they will be different and we will ONLY be taught from the e-book material. Just FYI

ahh that sucks...I can't do ebooks....I NEED my paper books to study with :(

I think it's considered "fundamentals"....performing a complete head to toe assessment is the biggest focus and direct patient care (pretty much the tasks a CNA would complete for a patient)...bed baths/showers, meeting a patients personal needs...things like that

That would be easy I guess since I'm already a CNA, I do that every time at work and I also took HPRS- basic health profession skills at El Centro College and we cover complete head to toe assessment.

It's really not hard....mostly meant to get you out of your comfort zone...and teach you how to get in someone else's space...if You're already working as a CNA you're used to that,, you're ahead of the game....I have never had a healthcare job (I taught PreK lol very different ballgame) so it helped me a ton. That and figuring out what your instructor wants in your paperwork....and deciphering patient charts...things like that
