Hi everyone. Just wanted to start a post for the 2015 Associates degree of Nursing Fall program at Weatherford College and see who else will be applying!
I have 31 points before my TEAS. I probably wont be taking it for a couple more months. I've finished all of my pre and co requisites and have my 15 hours of BSN credits so I'm super excited to finally be able to apply :)
I wonder what the point cut off will be this semester? I'm hoping to get at least 6 points off my TEAS but 8 would be great! Comment if you're applying this upcoming semester! Cant wait!
My watch has crystals...so far I haven't encountered anything that made me hesitate to wear it....and they don't care about your watch as long as you can use it to take vitals lol
As for earrings you are allowed to wear 2 studs one in each ear....rings I only wear my band...my engagement ring rips gloves I plan to just buy a plain band because mine has diamonds all around it and that's a lot of little crevices for germs to get in
I spoke to my cousin (MSN in nursing education), she said littman cardiology III is great, she had one for like 15 years. As far as watches, she said plastic /resin band is vest so they can be cleaned easy. She said DO NOT go all out on your gear, she said you would be shocked how many do. She said if you were going to spend money, then spend it on your shoes, and invest in compression socks, at least for clinical days.
What are the guidines as far as shoes go?Also does anyone know the minimum requirements we will need for a computer or have a good recommendation for a laptop? Thanks.
Solid white and not fabric tops (to prevent any junk from soaking through if you are encounter a messy situation at clinical)....they do allow minimal color (like if it has a colored logo on the side or something...)
as for laptops....you don't NEED anything fancy....we did find that if you can't run microsoft silverlight you can't run the ATI modules (I am NOT an apple gal so I can't tell you what their software options might be).....the chromebooks have issues with ATI....my galaxy tab....Ipad mini.....and surface (I think) sooooo an actual laptop (or access to one at home....we never NEEDED ATI in the classroom except for the day we took our pharmacology ATI test....a computer lab was also available that day)
I thought I could get by with my galaxy tab and it was great for most thing (text books and stuff...handy to throw in my bag and haul around) but couldn't run the ATI modules on it...so I ended up hauling my laptop more than I thought I would....the only other assignments that require an online program is through the book publisher.....it's called prepU and I don't know of any issues that were had with that....
ALL that to say.....I have a basic HP laptop from staples with windows 8 (I don't remember the specifics of what it has but I can look and see in a little bit) and it worked perfectly for what we needed......(and don't go out and buy microsoft office or anything if you don't already have it...because it was offered for free through the college as a download at the beginning of this semester...so I would definitely look into that before purchasing)
Got a call from KL today , I was changed for WCWC to WC. So this means an alternate spot will open. Also, I got physical ans back/spine screen today. It really went smooth. For those who still need to do that, I suggest parker county physical therapy.. I literally walked in and did the test and out within 20 min. I then went to parker county urgent care , and did physical ... I just walked in and out in 20 min ! Very impressed.

So it sounds like 5 atm should be fine for nursing school. My watch is a little glamorous though. It has some little crystals etched all around it and idk if that's appropriate for clinicals? It's really cute though haha.
Those that are married... what are your plans about rings? I was considering buying a cheap little band from walmart, bc idk how I feel about wearing my rings to clinicals... Both my engagement ring and wedding ring have diamonds and i had read that the hand sanitizer is pretty hard on diamonds. What are yall doing? Are we even allowed to wear jewlry? I have a very tiny stud in my ear cartilage. It's not very noticeable but I can't take it out and I wonder if they will want me to?
