Hi everyone. Just wanted to start a post for the 2015 Associates degree of Nursing Fall program at Weatherford College and see who else will be applying!
I have 31 points before my TEAS. I probably wont be taking it for a couple more months. I've finished all of my pre and co requisites and have my 15 hours of BSN credits so I'm super excited to finally be able to apply :)
I wonder what the point cut off will be this semester? I'm hoping to get at least 6 points off my TEAS but 8 would be great! Comment if you're applying this upcoming semester! Cant wait!
So yall help me out here...I was just in class and I mentioned to a friend how I plan on getting a job as a nurse when I'm finished with the program here at weatherford. A girl behind us laughs loudly and says "good luck getting hired with just your associates degree!" It was really rude and embarrassing for me. I didn't even know what to say.... she then went on to say that hospitals will only hire nurses with BSNs. It was just very rude and unasked for... I wonder how true her statement is?
That person is just really rude! The truth is, Hospitals do not want ADN. But, They will hire as long as you are a going on to BSN within a certain time frame, also many will pay for the transition . That being said, after 1st clinical semester, you should hire on with a hospital as a tech , you have better chance of being hired as a graduate nurse. Don't listen to narrow minded people.
Thanks for the update @afnhopeful!! I hope your interview went well too!
And yeah I understand that there was truth to what she said, it was just very rude how she said it. You're absolutely right though. We should ignore narrow minded people. And I'm 21 with a 4 year old and almost 3 year old getting by on just my husband's paycheck. An associates is literally all I can manage right now and honestly I'm proud of what I have accomplished and will accomplish here at Weatherford with "just my associates". Just have to ignore those rude people. I'll pursue my BSN as soon as I'm done here anyways.

I just looked up what the qualifications for an RN at Weatherford Regional was and it said an Associates. Some in downtown Ft. Worth state that a BSN is preferred. Don't let it get you down and that was extremely rude of her. When I took Intro to Nursing at UTA, they said that some areas are transitioning to hire only BSN. NY is supposed to be making the BSN only transition by 2020. I'm going to attempt to get hired on as a PCT after the first semester as well to help my resume after graduation. If we can't get hired on with our Associates then it will be more motivation to attend the RN to BSN ASAP, which is your plan anyways. All we can do is persevere to reach our ultimate goals.
Ok, so it seems that the girl with the rude comment hasn't done her homework. Here's the deal, yes, she is partially right. The hospitals are wanting BSN, even nurses that have been working at hospitals with only an ADN are required to finish up and get BSN to continue working there. On the other hand, small town hospitals, like the one in Granbury will hire RN's, especially if your still working towards your BSN. I will admit, these scenarios are few and far between but are out there. Most ADN work at Dr. Offices and clinics that are open Monday-Friday. All the nurses at my doctors office in Glen Rose are all ADN's. If you want to work at Harris, Cooks ect. than yes, the BSN will be required. I've learned long ago, don't listen to anyone else, find out for yourself what the facts are. Who cares if we have to work our way up. Keep your eye on the prize and it WILL happen!
Oh and my interview was... Meh... Awkward. I'm out of practice, my heart wasn't in it, and it was very intimidating. There were about 8 or 9 people encircled around the room just staring at you with one person asking questions. I can't believe I answered on of the questions, "You just have to suck in up." Ugh!! 😧 I was more excited to introduce myself to KL. Thankfully that went over 10x better than the interview.
Yes PCT seems to be what other nursing friends of mine have done too. My aunt is a director of nurses at JPS and she said to do PCT so that you may be hired within as a graduate nurse. Thant being said, many doctors offices , clinics, and surgical centers hire ADN. I am not worried, do not let that one uninformed comment get you down .

I just got done talking to Karen. She said that she should be hearing back from the BON any day now. She stated that they can take 10-21 days to input the names and receive the okay to send out the letters. Nothing else needs to be done after the BON. I'll be moving the first weekend of May so if by any chance the letters go out next week she is going to give me a call and ask which address to send the letter to, but if the letters are sent out after the first then she is just going to send it to my new address and no heads up. I'll keep y'all updated if I receive a call next week. 😊
