Hi everyone. Just wanted to start a post for the 2015 Associates degree of Nursing Fall program at Weatherford College and see who else will be applying!
I have 31 points before my TEAS. I probably wont be taking it for a couple more months. I've finished all of my pre and co requisites and have my 15 hours of BSN credits so I'm super excited to finally be able to apply :)
I wonder what the point cut off will be this semester? I'm hoping to get at least 6 points off my TEAS but 8 would be great! Comment if you're applying this upcoming semester! Cant wait!
I already bugged her this week, but I plan on dropping into her office on the 23rd when I have an interview for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program so I'll take that week. Hahaha
Ahh I bugged her last week lol, and two weeks before that. Anyone else willing to stick their neck out for us?? :)
And good luck with your interview! If you get accepted, which program will you choose?

I'll choose nursing. I applied to Sonography as a backup and just wanting to start a clinical, but I just wasn't excited when I got the letter for an interview. KL said that my interview would be good practice and since I'm currently looking for a job I thought that I could use all of the practice that I could get.

It will defiantly be good practice for the future. I think you should be comfortable about the RN program. Your points are awesome! I kind of thought about applying to the Respiratory care as a back up, but after doing some research, I decided against it. Its just not what I wanted. But if I don't get accepted to the RN program this semester, Im not sure what Im going to do. Im married with 2 kiddos and am really feeling the pressure to bring in a paycheck. The struggle is real. Haha!
$500 in savings is still a lot of money to me. LOL. If you don't mind me asking. How true is the breakdown of the first semester of the program that they have listed on the website? And how much of the 'other fees' did you have to purchase right away? Any wisdom that you can share?
oh yea $500 is significant...I bought my books from the book store...I paid a little more but in order to use the remainder of my student loans that's what I had to do....(WC doesn't do refunds until after the semester begins which sucks for buying books anywhere else.....but they do credit it to the bookstore so you can purchase there)
As for the 1st semester breakdown....if I remember right it was pretty accurate....I'll look back at my receipts and see exactly what it ended up being when I get a chance
the other fees:
-I spent around $50 on one set of scrubs (we only have clinical once every 2 weeks this semester...I don't need more than one right now). you may be able to find them less expensive online but I went into the store to try them on for fit and decided to just buy them and be done with it lol. Scrubs with the patch and white shoes will be needed by the first day of clinical....that was about 3 or 4 weeks in
-I think the patch was $8 and I only needed one since I only bought one pair of scrubs (thats all any of us bought this semester) you will need 2 if you plan to wear a lab coat which was not required and not something I would ever use anyway sooo I didn't bother buying one
-I think I paid around $55 for my shoes on amazon
-they aren't picky on our socks...I wear normal white athletic socks no extra cost there
-the skills pack is the biggest expense and necessary..it has all of your supplies (IV equip, trach care kits, foley cath kits, injection supplies.....ALL of the stuff you will use for practice in the lab) $250.....If you had to wait a little bit to get this...you could probably get by..I mean you start with vital signs....your kit comes with a BP cuff but I'm pretty sure they had some extras that they loaned out in the lab...mid semester it becomes even more important than at the beginning once you start practicing skills that require that supplies...you could get through a few weeks without it if you had to
-stethoscope you will need pretty early on....we used them within the first couple of weeks....before clinicals started to practice vital signs.....you don't have to have a super expensive one
other things that I don't know if the costs are listed anywhere to think about are vaccinations (mine were all covered by my health insurance but they can get expensive if your insurance doesn't cover them)/titers ($14 each...with maybe 5 needed) TB test ($10 at the health department not sure how much a drs office would charge), physical (I paid a $25 copay) and spine screen ($20) and your drug test (was around 35-40 I believe)....all to be done between acceptance and orientation....
the first semester is SOOOO expensive but try not to stress out over it....it WILL work out...I almost feel bad mentioning all these other fees lol cus I know it's overwhelming but for me it's better to be prepared and KNOW what to expect....
LOL and THAT turned into much longer than I was expecting when I started typing
There is so much to be done before the first semester! Don't forget the cost for CPR if you don't have that yet
YES! CPR....I was trying to remember what all off the top of my head lol and pharmacology is robbing all my brain cells at the moment....it is for sure overwhelming....just PREPARING for nursing school is an accomplishment in itself.....BUT it will be worth it....Just don't freak out like I did lol I got so overwhelmed with the "check list" of everything we had to get done lol and it's not as bad as it looks/sounds at all

I originally applied to the BSN program at UTA a couple of years ago. According to the advisor, I had a competitive GPA, but she had no answer when I got denied twice even after retaking classes to improve my GPA. I got mad and switched majors, but now I'm switching back since my heart wasn't in it. All you can do is your best, be involved, and apply to multiple schools/programs. If I would have known this I could have saved a few years of time.

Wow that's an awful experience. I know some schools dislike it when students have to retake courses, could that have been it? Although I have to say that its a bad sign from if the staff isn't cooperating with you from the get go. That's a great thing about WC, that the staff is more than willing to be honest and answer questions and work with you. Is there any reason you are pursuing an ADN instead of a BSN, since it sounds like you have already completed your BSN prereqs?
