Weatherford ADN Fall 2015

Published

Hi everyone. Just wanted to start a post for the 2015 Associates degree of Nursing Fall program at Weatherford College and see who else will be applying!

I have 31 points before my TEAS. I probably wont be taking it for a couple more months. I've finished all of my pre and co requisites and have my 15 hours of BSN credits so I'm super excited to finally be able to apply :)

I wonder what the point cut off will be this semester? I'm hoping to get at least 6 points off my TEAS but 8 would be great! Comment if you're applying this upcoming semester! Cant wait!

I am an alternate for wise county LVN-RN. I stalk my phone daily waiting for a call. :-/ I am hoping someone decided to except an oppurtunity somewhere else lol. I've been praying for patience !í ½í¹

I have heard that some have gotten the call the week of start. good luck!

@tmmycarson you won't I promise, lol!! We have a lot of different ages. @student0, it's was crazy! It's a huge learning curve, all of the online work and just learning the ropes. I'm in my 30's and I have 4 children ranging from 3 to 11 and my 3 year old is home with me when I'm not in class and it's always a challenge to entertain him and get work done. But it can be done. Best advice I got early on from a 3rd semester student was to get on top of the work and stay on top of the work. And it's really the best advice, it seems like there's always something to do. We had a lot of schedule changes in the beginning of last semester and some this semester too (but that's at WC campus, I'm not sure how it was at main campus) so, I promise you will hear the phrase "be flexible" a lot. So, just embrace it and do your best to roll with the flow. Make great friends and be supportive. My friends have saved by butt so many times, reminded me of something I didn't do or just shared their study notes with me because I had a crazy week etc. We try to help each other out, and it makes it so much better. It's so hard but it will make you feel like a superhero that you survived it and if I can survive it anybody can!!

I agree completely.....get ahead and stay ahead....if you have free time work ahead on your online work or reading or drug cards...or whatever....there's always SOMETHING you can be doing....there is rarely a day when I don't atleast work on SOMETHING. And we have people in our group from 20 all the way up to mid 50's.....It WILL happen....I'm at the main campus and our schedule didn't change at all this semester but I know people who are further along and they said that sometimes they'd have to switch class rooms in the middle of class cus rooms were overbooked and stuff in past semesters....it seems like all of that has been worked out this semester though.....but being flexible is important! I have 2 kids and a husband (somedays thats like 3 kids)......just make sure you have a good support system...that you always have someone who can help with your kids....as our professors say....if you need a babysitter....have a back up.....then a back up for your back up......I have been lucky and had someone who could grab my kids if they got sick at school or stay with them while I went to class if they were sick.....knowing those situations are covered make it far less stressful.....it's very doable....you just have to use your time wisely and don't lose your motivation....

the biggest thing for me....on days we get out early and I don't have to rush and get my kids...I will stay at school and work on things...I know if I go home...I'll start doing laundry....or cleaning or ANYTHING but studying....sooo I just stay an extra hour or 2 and get a LOT more done than I would in the same time at home....it's little things that will help you stay on top of everything

Hi guys!! I am 2nd semester ADN at WCWC and I was reading through here just checking in! I remember this time last year, we were STALKING Allnurses!! tmmycarson!! I remember you!! I am so rooting for you!! I just wanted to let ya'll know, with regards to the math, DON'T SWEAT IT!! Really, I am SO not a math person, and I was completely panicked about the Math. It is very manageable. We use dimensional analysis, and once you learn how to set it up, it's truly not that hard. I would look at some dimensional analysis for practice and just refresh your basic conversions: mg to g, lbs to kgs, mg to mcg, mL to teaspoons, mL to tablespoons, oz. to mL. Thats really it, you are just doing conversions. Also, with the blue cards, I got mine early last spring and was so confused!! I got my blue card before I got my acceptance letter and had no idea what it meant or why I got it and none of my friends had. The blue card comes once you have done your FAST fingerprints and your background check has cleared. I had forgotten that I had applied to NCTC's LVN program and was accepted and had to drop because of health issues at the last minute. So, my fingerprints were already in the system from doing them for the LVN program 3 years prior. So, unless you have done FAST fingerprints for some reason in the past, don't panic if you don't get it early. Generally, they don't come until after you've completed that fingerprint appointment, the info for that comes in your packet. First semester is EXPENSIVE because you have to pay for your scrubs, shoes, stethescope, skills kit, books, etc. But, once you have them, you have them and second semester cost me less than half of first. So, the expense balances out over the 4 semesters. Good luck you guys!!

Just out of curiosity, what did your schedule look like for the first and second semester look like? I've read different things about what the schedule looks like... Also, where do they hold clinicals for the first semester? I've seen the students at the ER (hard to miss in those bright red scrubs!!) but I'm just curious as to where we will be for semester 1!

I'm on the main campus....our schedule (first semester) is

8-5 tues

8-2 wed

8-12 fri

and clinicals every other thursday from 6:30-2:30

and main campus has their first semester clinicals are at 2 local nursing homes in WFord....not sure what Wise county campus looks like since they didn't have a class that started this semester

Oh okay! Do you k ow where clinicals are held for the other semesters?

second semester is some of the smaller hospitals (weatherford regional, Decatur, granbury, possibly mineral wells)

then as you move on some of the bigger hospitals....JPS....Texas health I think...not sure which ones I'm pretty sure they said you rotate through different places....probably a mix of the big hospitals and small hospitals depending on where you are at the time.

and then 4th semester I believe you get to choose what department you would like to do your preceptorship in....

I think you do a day as a school nurse too....not really positive on all those details but from what we've been told this is what I understood

That sounds so exciting! I can't wait!

I am taking the HESI tomorrow for TCC. Is it horrible that I am not motivated at all because I really really want to get into WC or WCWC? Week 3 starts tomorrow!! :)

Do you live close to weatherford?

Do you live close to weatherford?

Nope. I am in the Keller/North Fort Worth area, ironically the exact same distance from WC and WCWC mileage wise. It will be a drive to either but I can guarantee you the drive to TCC or any of the other schools I am looking at applying to at the end of this semester would be at least the same drive time (if not more) because of traffic.
