Hi everyone. Just wanted to start a post for the 2015 Associates degree of Nursing Fall program at Weatherford College and see who else will be applying!
I have 31 points before my TEAS. I probably wont be taking it for a couple more months. I've finished all of my pre and co requisites and have my 15 hours of BSN credits so I'm super excited to finally be able to apply :)
I wonder what the point cut off will be this semester? I'm hoping to get at least 6 points off my TEAS but 8 would be great! Comment if you're applying this upcoming semester! Cant wait!
but is there any harm in applying? if you apply....and get into the ADN program then awesome....take the ADN spot....if you get in and decide you don't want to do that program...just decline the spot....and it will go to someone else.....
Yea I'm kinda in the same position as you I'm closing in on 30 I'll be 28 this year I was on again off again in school for like six years before I actually buckled in so I'm ready to be done too. I'll prolly apply this summer just for kicks and giggles with the backup plan to continue BSN courses over fall so if I don't get in I can turn right back around and apply again at the end of fall with more points
I was in the same position when I didn't get in the firs time I applied....I was so torn on what I wanted to do...another 6 months felt like an eternity and I just didn't want to drag it out any longer....I mean I am at a point in my life that I don't want to drag this out any longer.....BUT I'm honestly glad I didn't go the LVN route and bridge.....I took a couple of classes toward my BSN (because I already knew I am applying to a BSN bridge when I finsh).....I retook the TEAS and made sure the classes I took would be improve my points status WHILE applying to my BSN pre reqs....and thankfully got in on my second try
LVN would have been ANOTHER step in this lengthy school process for me.....and I just wasn't up for it....not saying it's not a good route for other people but I couldn't bear the though of ANOTHER year of school
that being said......if I was in a different situation (say early 20's no kids....etc.....) I might have decided to jump right into LVN and do the bridge.....but I am nearly 30 with a husband and kids and I feel like I have been in school for EVER lol
I agree with you. To me it does seem like a possibly unnecessary step in what is already a lengthy process. I feel like it would be a better use of my time to work on BSN prerequisites, because we will pretty much all need our BSN sooner or later if we want to get anywhere in the nursing field. Although that being said, if you have your LVN, you could possibly work while going to school and gain valuable experience, which is always great on a resume. But as TLiz has pointed out, I too am married with children and feel the pressure of needing a responsible career where I can support my family! And from my point of view, pursuing the RN instead of LVN-RN seems to be a better choice. It might be waiting an extra 6 months, but that's better than an extra year, plus the time, energy, and money that will be needed for LVN school, that could be going straight to RN/BSN. That's just my opinion though:)
but you can go LVN -BSN as well and forgo the RN through UTA ect. They have an Accelerated BSN program as well for paramedics and LVN's . Just a thought.
My situation was a little different when I decided to go to LVN school. The school that I went to ONLY offered LVN program and LVN to RN program, they didn't have just regular ADN. I was in a spot where I had to get a good job ASAP, and LVN school was the quickest way for me to do that. I can honestly say now that I'm glad I went ahead and got my LVN first. I have gained a lot of good experience, and also I will be able to find a good part time job for when I start school. A lot of work places are really good with LVN's that are going to school for RN. A lot of times they will allow you to work flex schedules, and will work around your classes in hopes that when you do become an RN you will continue to work there.
Another thing to consider is ADN and BSN program competitiveness. ADN and BSN programs are so difficult to get into for some people, but LVN to RN programs have a lot less applicants, and are usually not as competitive to get into. I'm sorry, I'm not tryring to be negative, but it is definitely something I would think about if I was in your postion. If you feel confident that you will be able to get into the ADN program then I say go for it, but definitely consider all your options! I wish you the best of luck with whatever you do choose :)
From what I understand the bad weather and spring break pushed it back two weeks, so the 6-8 weeks started the Monday after spring break which would be 3/16? So we would be into the second week now. That is just speculation based on what others have said, as I have not spoken with any at weatherford directly.
