I don't want to sound uncaring but if I read one more of these posts about 75 questions, "I know I failed" and 3 days later...."I PASSED !!" I think I will lose it. Could we not put a sticky at the top of the NCLEX thread? "Read this if your test turned off at 75". It's going to drive me nuts! :flamesonb
I just have a question and this is purely just my curiosity getting the best of me.......(Gosh I hope this doens't spark another string of wild post)I was wondering if you newly "passed the nclex" grads experience this same kinda thinking as a new nurse in a hospital. do you find yourselves being treated like "buck it up little missy" because other nurses are more experienced now and forget what it was like to be a newbie nurse??? I have heard so many say this is the case.
like I said I am just curious is all!

I love working with new grads. Yes, I was one myself twice. 1975 and 2001. I know there are nurses out there both young and old who feel like they don't have time to deal with a new grad and that is sad. I don't think they forget they just don't care. I used to doing alot of precepting before switching to HH and loved doing it. I would love to teach but there's just not enough money in it and right now I still have one child to get through college.

I think this is an example of a few spoiling it for all. Most of us don't forget where we come from and are understanding.
Yes there are a few, probably too many, that don't appreciate the feelings of new grads, nor understand the experience of new grads is individualized, not the same as their own.
When a new grad runs across these people they scream "Nurses eat their young! They forget they were a new grad once". This is stereotyping an entire profression based on a few bad apples.
Surely we're going to come across these people. Best to deal with them individual and not judge the rest of us, don't you think?

thats cool. yeah I think I am more worried bout that part then the actual test at this point. hard to start a new job no matter where it is, but I have heard stories from friends of how bad they were treated to begin with. They stated it was mainly cause there starting out pay was much more than the ones with experiece starting pay. mihgt have been just at this hospital too not sure that is why I was curious. no matter what the reason it is hard.

I guess that was what I was trying to politely say. Don't let the little stuff like the never ending "I got 75 questions!" titles bother you.Peace out.
Yes Tweety I can always count on you to speak your mind yet be polite and respectful and I so admire you for that. It's all to easy to snap back sometimes. I also go with todays posts....I'll just take a deep breathe from now on and pass them right on up. Peace to you too! You've made me feel better this morning. I'm on my way to see HH patients. I love my job.
Woo Hoo !!!

Woot! Have a great day!
I have read all or skimmed some of what you all have had to say on this exam issue. Sometimes I thought ohmy, other times i though yes yes see the point and others I thought WOW this is getting good. I am an LPN in RN school I know a little about NCLEX and other exams of course I get nervous for each one , my nervous system just takes over, it's just human nature, i kinda like it lets me know how much alive i am, but I wanted to commend you all for handling this so well even with venting this thin ebbed and flowed and the final result was with brilliant rersolve, at least i think so. I am more relaxed now myself in RN school after having been an LPN for three years and having been a nurse and getting some experience, but every now and then something creeps up and gets me anxious, feels good though, also feels good to know you folks worked things out and you are comfortable and calm. Have a great day from the mountains of West Virginia!!!!:) :)
my test was two days long, 4 parts (2 parts each day) ... and yes, i had to use # 2 pencil also. it took about 8 weeks to get the results in the mail. results were simply pass or fail. so if you did indeed fail, you would have to reschedule to retake all 4 parts. luckily, i passed the first time :) ....
i have worked with rns in the past who have told me that when they took their exams, if one would fail, they only had to go back and retake the part that they had failed.
My NCLEX never turned off at all. You took the whole damn thing, using a paper and pencil, and you liked it. Then you waited 6 weeks for your results.
Dang there was nothing to turn off only to tear up but then that would have been a rather dumb thing to do, eh? I was frustrated enough to fantasize about it.
I can remember the test was 750 questions and we had four sections, Meds, Patient Care, OB and Surgery, right?
Then there was the issue of making sure you filled in the correct dot with your #2 pencil because if you got even one out of whack your whole test would be answered wrong. It took extra time to check and keep checking that the those filled in circles were all in the correct order.
Going to the bathroom and having a proctor go with you. I had a cold and they searched each and every one of my kleenex for cheat sheets. Like that would even have been possible. It would have been nice had they let me have a nice warm cup of Mercy Tea ! Being searched when you entered the building. I took mine in March and got my results by mail in late May. My hands were so shaky I could hardly open the envelope. All the paper said was "passed". A week or so later I got a package in the mail regarding how to go about getting my license. I think it was $12.00 ???
Although I would never want to go back to that type of NCLEX because my NCLEX-RN was less tiring on the computer but I can't help thinking that the old way was really a better reflection of what we had learned in school. Thanks all for the trip down memory lane. It was fun.
Now let me fill you in on just how far I had to walk to school and walk home again and both ways were straight uphill, through the snow, and without shoes. Oh pleeaaassee !!!! We oldies like to reminence. Their day is coming years from now. :)
