We Saved a baby yesterday

Published

We had a mom come in on her own for decreased fetal movement for one day.

The nurse got heart tones in the 120s and had mom change. 2 minutes later mom was on the monitor and heart tones were in the 60s and stayed there despite position change. Attending in house OB did US saw they were indeed baby heart tones (not mom's and a demise) and we did a crash c/s.

By the time we were in the OR (down the hall) we couldnt get heart tones.

Baby was out in 11 minutes from the time heart tones were found to be in the 60's, 20 minutes from presenting on our unit.

Baby was born without heartbeat or respirations but had an apgar of 6 by 5 minutes. Awesome neo who did a great job.

We are all waiting to see how baby does, but after the maid thread I couldn't help but think how far from the truth that is.

Mom named baby Jesus.

I was praying very hard the whole time.

That's great. I am glad you got to go out together. What a team!

Good job! God willing baby will be fine. Do you know what caused the problem? Nuchal cord? sepsis?

Abruption and possible dehisence (sp?). They went so quickly after the baby they didn't check before delivery. After the baby was out there was meconium staining of the broad ligament.

Baby is off the vent, has gag reflex, good tone. Did have some seizures, neo says will just have to wait and see what kind of brain function the kiddo has.

Back in the mid 1970s, we had a mom come in about 5 1/2 months or so pregnant . We had no NICU, and we certainly did not know then what we know now. We delivered this 1 pound baby, ( I was an CNA going to school) (First year of college). The pediatrician, (had parkinsons) and the resident was wonderful. I was the nursery nurse. (they actually asked for me when anything was critical, as I had worked well with them before. ) and for over 8 hours straight, we worked on this baby. I had stacks of paper towels, with notes of vs. meds, procedures, etc We stabilized that baby, somehow, and 4 months later sent her home to a healthy happy, life. (Mom was thrilled had lost 4 others.) today that baby is 30 plus with kids of her own. In a rural hospital with no NICU, it was a wonderful, but touch and go 4 months, things just went our way, and that baby wanted to live.

Congratulations, it is always a great feeling to win.

What a coincidence that someone posted on this old thread....

Baby Jesus came in for a one year follow up with Neos recently.

He is doing well, slight developmental delays but overall healthy.

That's fantastic! I'm so glad you got to see the outcome of your efforts that day! Hooray for you and your team!
