We got into the CLC Nursing program...now what

Published

OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! :lol2: When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?

I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.

And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need? :uhoh3:

Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!

I just got back from CLC (had tetnus and flu shots) and the bookstore has our modules!!! The total is $53.26. Of course I had to get it and am currently reading through it. My hubby says I should just walk away, put it down and no one will get hurt! I can't!

I'm still trying to shop for my daughter. I think she's getting LOTS of gift cards since she doesn't even know what she wants. Did you guys see that CLC offers gift cards now too?

Vicki called me this morning after she had talked to the bookstore. We went over right away and picked up our modules. Ended up seeing Kelly there too and spent a good deal of time visiting. A nice morning!

I went from there over to Gurnee Mills. I bought a pair of white scrubs from Xtra Credit Uniform which is just a few stores away from JCPenney Outlet (two doors down from Burlington Coat Factory). They carry Cherokee scrub pants in TALLS, and they are $18.99 compared to the White Swan scrub pants at JCPenny that are $10.99. Similar styling, just longer. The White Swan ones are JUST long enough for me, so it's nice to have a pair that are extra long. Though now that I think about it, those nice white cuffs will be dragging... Hmmm..... I did pick up a cute watch at the uniform store. It was $19, and has a cute print with little medical people cartoon characters - very cute. Best part is the face is nice and big (with a second hand!) and in small print by each number on the face it has the "military time". That is the hardest thing for me to get used to - keeping track of what time is what when doing it that way. This should make it easier!

I got mine too. Yippeee!!! I am so excited. I never finished reading the student handbook. Now I have plenty to do.:lol2:

Colleen, are those scrub pants the carpenter style w/ the extra pockets?

I called Kinko's & they charge a penny/page for 3-hole punching. I went by there today, crowded so I'll go in the morning. I don't have a super duper hole puncher and if I unstable the packets, I won't be able to restaple them (at least the bigger packs). I think it will be worth $10 or so to have it done in a couple of minutes. I'm guessing that there are about 700 pages.

Vicki

Vicky - I have a decent size 3-hole punch. You can borrow mine if you want.

Are you guys putting the modules in a 3-ring binder? I know some put each one in a 2 pocket folder. Inside they put any other copies that were handed out. They also wrote on the folders little notes that they needed to remember. Someone else also taped a calender of the days they would be going over that module. I'm not sure what I'm doing with mine. I looked at some of them and it looks like I might punch some info if I 3-hole punch them.

I saw Kelly today too. Too bad I didn't know there was gonna be a party!!!

Hey all...I feel like the loser...I haven't gotten ANYTHING yet!!! How much is the Handbook? I won't be able to get it til I get paid on Thursday. Then I'll be back in the "I'm with it" club...LOL But I AM on the ball with my physical and stuff. I have that tomorrow and then my TB check and 2nd one tomorrow as well. So, when I go back on Thursday to have my 2nd one checked, I'll run down the to book store and get all my stuff and have a couple of weeks to go over since I am off til after the New Year!

I am pretty much done Christmas shopping. But not really until Christmas day for my daughter. She is 2, so EVERYTHING I see I want to buy her, but she's got plenty even if I don't get her anything else. I seriously think I am done shopping though...for everyone! And I wrapped almost everything on Thursday night!!! I've never been this on the ball!!! I feel like I am just trying to stay ahead because I know I will need every moment very soon!!! I reorganized my kitchen today and cleaned the dining room out, so I think I am in the "nesting" phase of this Nursing Student thing...LOL. But really, I am just trying to keep everything as simple as possible...no clutter anymore if possible!

i wouldn't tote all of the modules around. no one in our class did. it's way too heavy to carry in addition to books.

Hmmm... I'll have to think about that - that's a very clever idea. You always need a place to put the extra papers and so forth. Then if you used a notebook for all you notes it'd be pretty easy to tote what you needed around.

Sorry we missed you! We would've loved to hang out with you too!

We were talking about going out on the 7th after we're done at Orientation Day. Anyone else interested?

Vicki - yes, those are the carpenter style scrub pants. Both places had them acutally. The Cherokee ones from Xtra Credit Uniforms seem a little nicer. They have a double pocket on the leg. The White Swan ones only have a single pocket on the leg. Both are just fine though.

Lori - The handbook is about $11. The module pack was $53 and change. Smart of you to budget until payday! We can all relate to that I'm sure.

Sign me up for going out after orientation of the 7th.

I, too, am in the nesting phase. I am almost done wrapping. Usually my hubby and I are up until 3am on Xmas morning wrapping and then I am a complete *itch! Honestly I only become a *itch once a year!

Diedra-I'm glad you mentioned that about punching holes in the info. I didn't think to check for the margins. I want to put all of mine in a large binder for storage at home, even though we may only need a couple of sections at a time.

I spoke with a couple of people last semester that were in the lab. They had their modules in a large binder. I believe they said that you really don't have to refer back to the other modules once your done with them-so alot of people just carry whatever they need at the time. They had the entire section I think (like Module A,A1,A2,etc.)with dividers in between.

My daughter babysits for a lady whose sister was in the program before. MaybeI didn't word it right. She put each module in a 2-pocket folder. They were each color coordinated, so all A modules could be red, b's green, etc. Also in the folders she put any homework, care-plans, notes, etc. The notes were put on loose-leaf paper. She also wrote any info on the outside that she knew she didn't want to forget. So, she only carried whatever module she was working on at once. I hope that makes sense.

I'm gonna check the margins later today. I think I'll try the 2-pocket folder system (cheapest) and then see how that works once I get going.

Colleenn - Does your watch have a plastic band?
