We got into the CLC Nursing program...now what

Published

OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! :lol2: When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?

I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.

And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need? :uhoh3:

Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!

My #1 thing on my Christmas list was taken care of yesterday. The other day on the PDA & Nursing thread of this forum, someone posted that Staples had the Palm T/X on sale. Using a couple of online coupon codes (which the poster supplied) really reduced the regular price (from $299 down to $179). Only problem was that when I went online to buy it they were out of stock. So I called the 800#, and a lovely lady looked up in their system to find if any of the local stores carried them. Mundelein had a couple so I called and they held one for me. Best part is they honored the online coupon codes. I am now the proud owner of a brand new Palm!!! Stapes offers a 14 day "no-questions-asked-money-back-guarantee", so I think I've talked my hubby into the importance of letting me play with it before Christmas because I will need to know for sure if I really, really like it before the 14 days are up, right? Technically it's supposed to be my Christmas present from my hubby, but last night he said he wasn't really going to consider it my present because it's really more of a tool for school. Hmmm... does that mean I might get another present then;)?!?

AWESOME!!!! That is great that they honored all the coupons and everything!!! Congrats!

Colleen - good for you! If you want to borrow my Palm book, just let me know. It's called "How to do Everything with your Palm powered device" (that doesn't sound right - does it).

Ok, I am 100% confused!!!

So, I've been going to the Nurse at CLC for the past week, trying to get my stuff done. Here is the deal:

12/6 - Got my first Hep B shot and checked with Insurance to find out if they cover Titres at 80% or not...yes, they do and it will save me money by doing that.

12/11 - Got my first TB test of the 2-step.

12/18 - Will go back to have my TB test checked and have my second one done. Also, I have a physical this day which is when I should get my order to have my titres done.

12/20 - Have my second TB checked.

Ok, so here is why I was confused. I told her I was planning on getting my order from my doctor on the 18th at my physical and she told me that I might want to do it sooner because they are gone for the Holiday starting the following week and if they don't get the results back on time and this and that. Well, if I go on Tuesday to do the blood work, they should have it back before the end of the week I would think. I thought I had to rush because if it showed I didn't have specific immunizations, then I'd have to get those done, but she said no, I won't need anything other than the Hep B. I'm just so confused...is that really the case? I was rushing trying to get my doctors office to get my order to me BEFORE Tuesday so I could go and do it this week and I just don't see a point in it if I don't need to worry about other immunizations. Even if they don't get it before they leave the office on Friday, is it a huge deal? That just means they won't get the results til they return after the new year...is that a big deal?

Ok, so here is what I will have done before the end of the year...tell me if I am missing something:

TB Test 2-Step

1st Hepatitis B Immunization

Physical

Flu Shot

Eye Exam (on 1/2/08)

Titres (Hep A, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella)

CBC

Is there something else that I will NEED to get???

Hi everyone,

I went into the bookstore today and picked up the student handbook and they told me that the 172 modules are in, but they still waiting for the 171 modules. Maybe this means it will be soon.

Vicki

That's funny - I just called them today and they told me that the handbooks would not be available until the middle of next week. I'm bummed. Maybe I can talk my hubby into taking a ride with me...

Specializes in Cardiac ICU.

i went and picked up the student handbook today, too. the students that are working in the bookstore really don't know anything about what is in or what they carry. talk to whoever is in charge (i forgot her name)...she had them get the handbook (behind the closed off section) for me to purchase.

So I went to Tri-County today and got my "oh-so-sexy" uniform shirt. NOT!!!

Ugh! It is SO ugly! But I see what you mean Diedra, when your hubby said it was flattering on the hips. It is a teeny bit longer than a regular scrub top I think, and it has the little notches on the side that make it sit looser.

I was down in Champaign picking my daugher up from school the other day. We had to drop off her rent check at the property management company office. Right next door there was a uniform shop with the CUTEST scrubs in the window! I mean they were fun colors, and had great detail, cool prints, etc. I wanted to go in, but we needed to get on the road in order to beat the traffic back.

Why can't we have cute uniforms?

Ok, I am 100% confused!!!

I was in the Phlebotomy class last spring, and I learned to count on what the nurses in the health center said to do. Whatever they say goes it seems, so if they say you need something done I'm sure you do. Did you get the letter from Dr. Jezuit yesterday? It has a really detailed list of medical stuff you need. Hope that helps.

I am totally in LOVE :1luvu: with some of the cute scrubs they have now. I just got a catalog from Lydias Uniforms (www.lydiasuniforms.com) and they have tons of cool ones. They also have the Ultrascope.

Colleen - how many times have you tried on the top? :jester:

I had the same answer today - it wasn't available yet. I will pick mine up next week when I go back in to check my TB test on Tuesday.

Yes, I got the letter and already had the descriptive information on the medical stuff, but I am just confused as to what will happen after the titres...guess I am not understanding that all that well. Oh well...i'll get it done soon enough!

Weeeellll, technically only 3 (that someone saw anyhow!). Once in the store, once to show my daugher, and once to show hubby. Although I did try it on again last night myself! I'm such a dork!!!
