OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?
I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.
And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need?
Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!
Yes, I got the letter and already had the descriptive information on the medical stuff, but I am just confused as to what will happen after the titres...guess I am not understanding that all that well. Oh well...i'll get it done soon enough!
Oh, OK, now I gotcha. Well, last year when I took Phlebotomy they told me I needed titres drawn for Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (Chicken Pox). (They're not cheap either!) I asked if I could just go ahead and get the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine and just have the titre drawn for the Varicella since I knew it had been quite a while since I'd last had any vaccines (the MMR vaccine is only like $2 or something at the Health Center). They told me that it's never a good idea to get a vaccine unless you really need it, so I should have the titres drawn. Well wouldn't you know that one of them came up low, so I had to have the silly $2 shot anyhow and could've avoided forking out the money for the titres! Oh well - there was no way to know that ahead of time.
The wierd thing now is that I have to have another titre drawn on whichever one came back low last time (I think it was the Mumps one actually). Since they gave me the booster shot last year the titre should now come back showing the immunity I guess. If not, I'll have to have another booster I suppose.
New this year is having to have titres drawn for Hep A and Hep B (or is it C? I don't have the sheet in front of me). Last year we just had to have 2 of the 3 Hep B vaccines before starting Phlebotomy clinicals, and they didn't worry about Heps A & C. I just got my 3rd Hep B and my flu shot the other day. They told me to come back the week of Jan. 7th to get the titres drawn. According to her I'd have plenty of time to wait for the results and then get any boosters needed.

I don't know why the titres would make a difference since you have until the 23rd, but I know the nurse told me that after orientation there is line out the door and around the corner with students who waited until the last minute.

Ok, well, my doctors office just called me and said my order is ready, so I will pick that up after work and either go tonight to have my bloodwork done or tomorrow, so it should be back next week and then if I need any shots, I'll get them next week before the big rush! Colleen, the way you are explaining it is how I understood it to be. She just confused me because I said something about when she gets the results, then we'll know if I need any other immunizations and she specifically said I will NOT have to get anything else, just the Hep B series. That is what confused me, but I think I am understanding it correctly...LOL Thanks!
Diedra, after your first dose, you get the second one 1-2 months later, and the third one, 4-6 months after the first one and at least 2 months after the second one. I'm planning on sticking to around 2 months between each.
Colleen-I am here, now that school is out, it seems I have a million things to do....lots of stuff hubby didn't want to do, so he left it for me. Like xmas cards, planning my sons birthday party for this saturday. I have not even been able to go get my beeeautiful nursing top. I got that letter from school the other day, and I wanted to go look up the student handbook and it won't even let me look up the books for the nursing class. So....can we go pick up the book, it seems that some got it and some were not allowed to. How it the pda? I cannot play with any of my nursing stuff....boohoo. My husband is such a meanie.

I have not even opened the box on the PDA yet. I'm going to do it this weekend. I got a new laptop this summer and it came with Windows Vista (which is a bit of a pain). My husband's boss can convert it to XP instead which I like better. Plus, I've heard there are some slight issues with running the Palm T/X on Vista anyhow. So this way it'll be easier. I wanna play with my new toy!!!

Oh boy...Motley Crue the night before CPR??? Ugh!!! I have a friend who LOVES Motley Crue...he has S-I-X-X on his knuckles...crazy boy!!! I am POSITIVE he will be there that night. My friend actually met Nikki Sixx a few months back...

So I sent my hubby the link for the backpack I want Santa to bring to me. (Boy is my husband having an easy shopping year - I'm doing all the legwork! Honestly though, I don't mind. I'd rather know for sure I'm getting what I want...). It's from eBags, but different from Diedra and Heather's - a little cheaper too. I like it because it stays upright when you're going into and out of it. Some of the true backpack style ones kind of flop open when you upzip the main compartment. Lots of pockets for PDA, cell, steth, etc. I can't wait!! Here's the link...
Everyone getting ready for the holidays? My mother-in-law (who is one of my favorite people in the entire world - really!) is coming in town on the 23rd-28th. Other than that I don't think we're having any other family until maybe New Years.
