We got into the CLC Nursing program...now what

Published

OK, we got in, but now what? I am a detail orientated person and I want info! :lol2: When can I start picking up things I need? What are those items?

I have really lost it! I went from thinking about getting in to wondering what to do/what to read/what to buy before class starts.

And how big of a backpack do we REALLY need? :uhoh3:

Anybody out there from CLC have any advice? Help me before my family moves out of the house permanently (wait...maybe that would be a good thing:devil:)!

I am getting the software from www.skyscape.com - I don't think prices are too bad. You order online and can download it onto the Palm. Or you can have whatever you want to purchase loasded on a disk (the size that fits Palms) and they charge you an additional $25.00 for that. I figure that way, if something happens to break on the Palm I wont lose my software. There may be another place to get it, but from what I hear, most do thru skyscape.

I am gonna wait until I get the list of books we need, or I want and then go from there.

I use my Palm now for keeping track of my A&P grades, volunteering schedule, etc. I also have a few games, for those moments when I am brain dead and need something else do to.

Has anyone decided which Section (days) they are going for? I'd like to go for the same one that I "know" some people.

Question...I have a PalmOne Tungsten, T3...will this work with the software? I am thinking of getting one or two of the softwares now.

Yes! The Tungsten E series are one of the best to use! I've been monitoring eBay for these and there are quite a few already loaded with medical software. There is also software available on eBay for it, too. I stopped at Office Depot today to get a look at a palm pilot. However, they don't carry them anymore due to the advent of the SmartPhone. I guess I'll keep my eye on eBay for a while longer...BTW my book fund has reached $75 on eBay by selling kids books and such...its great! I jokingly say that I now can buy half of a nursing text!

Oh, how true it is!! 1/2 way to one book!!! WHOO HOO!!! :lol2:

So, this would be a Tungsten E series? I'm so stupid when it comes to this stuff if I am not educated on it!!! I've been eyeing those on ebay as well (I'll fight you for it...LOL...kidding). I'll have to look for the software...post some of the software for me if you don't mind!! Maybe I can get it cheaper there, but the website Diedra posted isn't horrible and I can get $20 off if I order 4 of the programs from our book list today. They offer Nursing 2008 Drug Handbook, 2008 Mosby's Nursing Drug Reference, Saunders Nursing Drug Handbook 2008 and Mosby's Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing & Health Care Prof.

Now, I guess my question would be do we really need all the different drug handbooks? I'm sure that'll be answered in orientation, so maybe for now, I may just get one to put on my Palm.

I got my Palm T/X at Best Buy. I think Office Max still has them too. I went with Best Buy so I sould get the extended warranty. I know most experts say that extended warranties are not worth it, but I have to disagree. I had a washer/dryer unit from Best Buy with the warranty - we had problems for 5 years. I finally asked for a new one and got it! My daughters ipod battery quit charging and they had to give her a new one. My son's portable DVD player wouldn't hold a charge, they no longer carried that one, so he got to pick a new one at the same price (we could pay the difference). Now I'm glad I got one on the Palm because one part of the grafitti (sp?) area is a little off lately. I'll take it in and if they can't fix it - they'll replace it.

I did order a nice black leather (or pleather - not sure) case and screen protectors on ebay. They were super cheap. They came from China so they took a bit longer to get, but had the best prices. If anyone is interested I could find the info on who I ordered from.

Again...I love the Palm. The ONLY thing I wished I loved more was the calendar. It's not Palms fault - it's just that I really like to see the whole month. It allows you to see the whole month, but not what you have going on. So it really is just me being a typical Virgo!:uhoh3:

If anyone is interested in looking/playing with my Palm, just let me know, we can set up a time to meet at the school.

Diedra :icon_wink:

Me, MEEEE!!! Do you have time tomorrow after class for a few minutes?

(Though I must admit it sounds funny - play with my palm... LOL)

Colleen - I had to laugh too! I thought it was just me and my dirty mind, but I feel better knowing that I'm not alone. I have time after class - no problem!

Sigh...sure wish I knew what was in the nursing bundle! Can you imagine the rush to purchase less pricey textbooks online once we do know? Everyone has said that a Potter & Perry is essential but it is not on the required list, unless it is in the bundle. And, most new editions have very minute changes in the text, not really a whole lot of new info...so would a 6th ed work instead of the 7th?

Anyone visit the bookstore lately? Wonder if the CLC books (Nursing: Universal Self Care, ADN program handbook) is out on the shelf yet. Anyone else feel like this? I wonder if we stop into the nursing office and they would let us know...oh, Orientation Day..where art thou?

When is your orientation?

Orientation at CLC is Jan 7th from 9-3 and classes start the 22nd.

I know...I can't wait to just know what is going on!!! Only a little over a month away til Orientation Day!

I need to schedule my Physical still...I should do that now while I am thinking about it. I am putting appointments in my palm pilot now and I assume that will fill up quickly!!

Here is a question. Our classes begin the 23rd. Do yours actually begin the 22nd? Just curious...the night classes are Mon or Tues Clinicals, so maybe just the night classes are beginning on the 23rd because of the way the classes fall.

I figure we'll find out more at Orientation. My first day (Tues) is a clinical day and I don't think we actually start clinicals until about 6 weeks into the program.

My physical is on Monday, just got my 2nd Hep-B and CBC done. Still gotta cruise the bookstore...my sister (nurse practitioner) gave me an extra stethoscope that she had. She said not to spend too much on a stethoscope as a lot of students lose theirs or it is swiped by someone.

I went to the bookstore today and asked when books would be available to purchase. I was told Jan 2nd. I also asked if she had a list of what is included in the bundle. She told me that no one knew what was in the bundle yet, as it was still not decided. What? They just pick a dollar amount out of their behind? Doubt it!!

Anyway...anyone else ready for this semester to be OVER?!? I just want to relax, catch up on "Prison Break", watch "Survivor" without feeling guilty and read a book that has nothing to do with A&P! And maybe grab a Mai Tai - anyone else want to join me?
