Hi Everyone! I attend Wayne County Community College District. I was wondering if anyone new anything about WCCCD's nursing program. Do they have a waiting list? If so, how long is the waiting list. Any info given will be helpful. Thanks!

Thanks for the good luck wishes. I am getting anxious for next fall. The last two years flew by, hope the next two do also.

I can't wait until the Fall either, I will be applying also. Just want to get in and get it over with. I'm taking A&P 2 now and that was the last class I needed. This summer I plan on completing all the other co-req's so I will only have nursing classes.

so you will be applying by May 27th, for fall of 2006? do you know if there is a long wait to get in? or do they just go by gpa, or what? Anything else you need to have finished before applying? have you heard anything about the school? I live in Almont (lapeer county), I am not sure what campus would be appropriate for me to attend, is the program offered at more than one?

WCCCD does not have a waiting list. They go by the GPA of 5 classes, which are Eng. 110, Psy 101, A&P 1 and 2 and Microbiology. They recommend that you finish all outside of nursing classes before you apply to make the load a little bit easier. The campus that have the nursing classes are Northwest, Belleville and I think Eastern.

Just an FYI, nursing classes were at Harperwoods extension site and not at the actual Eastern Campus. Also Northwest is the the main campus for nursing classes although you can take some at Western or "Eastern" campuses. If you do your first semester at Eastern only your lecture classes will be held there, your lab classes such as Nur111 and Nur118 will be at Northwest. I wish you all much success. WCCCD's program is tough and thorough, you will learn a great deal in a short time. Good luck!

Anyone else waiting for their letter of acceptance? I am and it is driving me crazy. Applied May 24th, and waiting till end of June or sometime in July for an answer.

I know you are going crazy waiting. I plan on applying for the January 2007 program. I am taking A & P 2 for the summer. I took my NET at Henry Ford Community College a few dayz ago...I PASSED!!:monkeydance: . Currently My GPA is 3.5. I hope to get an A in my A & P class to keep my GPA up.

Best Wishese to ya.

Hi! I also applied for the Nursing program at WCCCD on May 24, 2006! There was a whole lot of people there and it was a bit disorganized. I am very anxious to get my letter, and I HOPE its good news. I have heard that the first 1/2 semester is VERY tough once in the program, I am just happy that I have all my co-req's done as of the end of this semester. I started pursuing this last summer with the BIO 155 but the FALL and SPRING and this SUMMER I have had at least 12CH's going at once. I just want to get through it. It is sad that they do not allow summer classes unless you fail or couldnt take one of the classes during the semester. I think if you are willing and able then they shouldnt prohibit your learning...then again you can always just work on stuff for the RN-BSN Competion or take a most likely MUCH Needed Brake. Like a nice vacation that I havent been able to go on for a year and what will extend to two years by this time next year LOL.

Anyway I will be checking this I think its great to talk to fellow Nursing students and wannabe's like me LOL.

Talk at ya soon,

Amanda

Hi there, I have been going to school full time for two years straight now and I am taking this summer off. I have over 50 credit hours and I think it will help with the load once we get in the program. I have heard that the first 7.5 weeks is your fundamental lessons, almost like nurse assistant duties, bed making, assisting with patient care, vital signs. I have heard all the studying is very intense and that clinicals are challenging. I am up for it though. I am almost 41 years old and have many years of nurse assistant experience, so this is my one shot to get in. I know there were so many people there. I couldn't believe it. They were all different ages too and quite a few males. We will make it in, just keep thinking like that. What did they tell you for the waiting time that day? They told me around the end of June or early July. Keep in touch.

Congratulations on passing the NET. I know I really stressed out about taking it, and when I finally did, it wasn't that bad. Good luck on your application also. Keep us posted on your progress.

A couple of questions, I passed my NET with a composite score of 75%. I know 61% is passing. With my GPA, should I re-take the NET? I heard the selection procress is by your GPA first, then when it is a tie between you and another person...let's say your GPA is 3.0, then they would go by your NET scores. Have you heard the same?

Also, how did yall approach writing your essays? I have been brainstorming for a few weeks now. I wrote one and ditched it.

I am sure I will have more questions for ya

Thanks!

I personally think your NET score is fine. It is higher than mine. The best way to get all of the information is to attend one of the monthly info meetings. Then the process is explained in detail. It is based on your pre req GPA, and NET scores. As you probably know, they start at the 4.0 GPA and work downward. There were a lot of people at the application meeting on May 24th, 2006. Regarding the essay part, I wrote out a big long essay at first, but changed it to a two page essay. They said some people have written only a few lines down and got in. They want you to write about why you want to be a nurse and what do you see for the future of nurses. I know some people at the meeting wrote a very basic half page essay. Maybe that worked for them. I happened to write a two page one. There were also people that had taken the NET 3 and 4 times to get a high score. I was wondering if that shows up on record. I have been out of school for over 24 years and took my NET once. I studied very hard on that math. I was proud of passing. I have never taken algebra before and had to teach it to myself. Some schools have a tutor for the NET, not sure if ours does. I hope I get in. From the way a lot of those people talked at the application meeting, they all had 4.0's. I had to take full time classes for my grant and that caused me to have a lower GPA. I took Micro and A and P I at the same time along with child growth and development and History. I do not recommend that to anyone. That was a heavy load and affected my grades. Some people might be able to pull that off with all A's, but I could not. I have a family and full time school to me was a challenge. I will be 41 years old in September, so to me...this is my one shot. If I do not get in, I will go on to something else I suppose. Good luck and let me know if you have anymore questions.
