Wayne County Community College District

Hi Everyone! I attend Wayne County Community College District. I was wondering if anyone new anything about WCCCD's nursing program. Do they have a waiting list? If so, how long is the waiting list. Any info given will be helpful. Thanks!

Oh, okay, thanks for the picture. I wonder if we can get it in long sleeve? Also, I did not know we had to have DT 130 before the nursing classes :imbar How could I take it for the first 7.5 weeks. Do they have a class just for nursing students to condense it in 7.5 weeks? If I got accepted, I was planning on taking Pharm this summer, and DT 130 my last summer.....hummmm, can I squeeze DT in my current schedule?:uhoh3:

Thank you so much for letting me pick your brain:icon_hug:

NUR 110 is from 3-5pm on M and R

NUR 111 is from 8am-2pm M and T

NUR 118 is from 8am-12pm on Sat.

NUR 112 is from 3-5pm the second 7.5 weeks on M and R

NUR 113 is from 7am-1pm M and T the Second 7.5 weeks

I took HSC 100 Fall 05. I would suggest that all your classes be done before going into the program but the co-req's that are needed to be taken before or during the first 7.5 weeks of nursing is DT 130 and HSC 100. So if they are not done they will make you take those classes with your nursing classes (I would have issues with that myself owwch. My suggestion if you have not taken these classes do so this semester or the semester before entering the program!)

The outfits are like uniforms not t-shirts. They have to have a collar and they from what I can tell in local store terms are only sold at Marshells in detroit. I have heard people can get them online for less but that is the prices I noticed when they were displaying them at the lottery. Here is a sample of something that would work for their requirements.

Thanks, I guess November is the happy letter month. I am wondering, even if you have a decent GPA (3.6) and everything in order, what else would prevent you from getting in?

While waiting, I am taking Patho, Lifespan, and Medical Math for the Fall 2006 semester. I am getting ready to check the schedules to see if I can squeeze DT130 in my schedule.

While we have been off for these past two weeks, I have been teaching myself the metric system (I felt really uneasy about it for medical math) and I have been reading a books on how to survive nursing school. Man, why wasen't I like this during high School?:uhoh3:

DAMomma, I wish you all the luck in the world in getting accepted at WCCCD!! You will probably get in - glad you had all your 'stuff' in order to submit to them...that is quite a list, and it's easy to omit something.

What are your plans while waiting for the happy letter??

Again, GOOD LUCK!

This is good news. I was wondering if there were going to be tons of applicants like it was when I applied for the Fall opening. There were sooo many people there. I have heard the Winter openings are not as loaded with applicants, but that could change each and every time. It seems so many people are wanting in nursing now a days. I am hopeful I will get in. The schedule sounds grueling, but I listen to too many negative people. I need to stop doing that. There are graduates every year, so it can be done. I just hope it can be done with a student who has a family at home and other things going on in their lives. Good luck everyone.

we all ask that question...if only we would have been like this in high school (lol). i pass this on to my sister who is in her senior year...with luck she will be more together then i was when i did the whole high school thing!

no there is not a 7.5 week dt 130 class... that class is the whole time during all your nursing classes. it isnt a pre-req to get into nursing obviously but it is a co-req for the first classes of nursing so this is why they make you take it when you are in your first semester. there is an online dt 130 class, maybe try going with that... if not then i had vera thompson who is the a very nice lady and you would do ok in the class (there is some issue with directions but hey you got me so i can clear things up). i got an a in the class but it sure was an annoying class, a lot of the stuff is repeat from a and p (which i guess isnt all bad, i was just burnt out and suffering with the whole summer deal and no breaks lol. i kept saying why did i take so many classes. then i got to that orientation and i was like o man am i glad i finished all my classes, lol! i also was not aware that dt 130 would have to be taken during the first semester, so i was happy when i had just finished it.)

the only thing that is going to keep you out of the nursing program is 1. if you missed something in your packet or 2. the grade point average cut off was higher then 3.6

i wouldn’t worry about it as you know the one thing that is controlled (your packet was complete). the other is done and over with and nothing you can do about it at this time, so don’t worry to much. lol yes i was worried when i was waiting but i also was making back up plans ie. i registered on june 5th for classes that would head me towards my bsn. just have a back up that you feel ok with and just chill and it will come and i am sure you will be just fine anyway.

you will be ok for the medical math, metric is an easy system to use. not so easy to remember if you are not using it but it is easy to learn. medical math is important as you get tested on it before each clinical semester. however it is not so bad to remember. dont sell your book back! use the disk that comes with the book. it has tests on it to help you learn and i found it really helpful so don’t ignore it till the last week like i did (lol).

did you take patho and hsc 200 online? (quick for hsc 200 is so good, and brian jordan for patho is awesome).

where there is a will there is a way- right? you have a lot going for you...1. you are in the hospital already, that is one up on a lot of people (cough me). 2. you are determined, i find it really takes someone that wants it, demands it. just like any other thing that is hard it takes serious commitment and determination, it helps to be a tad ocd (lol i think i am a bit!) negative people are just people with a bad attitude and no self-confidence. like a lot of people have said in the past, you can do anything that you set your mind to!

as for your family-they are there for support use it, they will help you!

CRAP! It was a toss up between taking patho and DT 130. I thought Patho would be more needed than DT. Should I drop my Patho class and take DT? With me still working, my schedule would make it difficult to take patho and DT together. Okay, I am starting to freakout here:trout: . SGN, tell me, what is involved in DT 130? Is it doable while in the program? (ha, like I got in ) Should I drop Patho to take DT?

I wish I knew this last Spring. I would have taken it then.

if you dont have (edit name per moderator) for patho online then drop it, you can do that class later while in the program or next summer or even while you are in nursing, the class isnt hard and isnt to time demanding (now that being said is only for (edit name per moderator) as i took him and have heard other teachers are more complicated) if you have (edit name per moderator) then just take both classes, seriously its not bad at all, i think you can manage it no problem. i would jump on the dt 130 before your nursing classes, it isnt that it is hard but the class is one day a week and 3 hours long and demands attention at home with nutrition tracking and the end project is time consuming. i looked at the classes online there is only three open classes so you need to get on and reg. before it is to late. however if you dont get into the dt 130 i wouldnt freak out really, think if you are already in nursing it doesnt matter about dt 130 for your transcript gpa so concentrate on nursing classes and just do your best (but pass!) dt 130, dont "study study" as you might normally. this is what i would do if i were you.

hope that makes sense! of course you have to do what is best for you so really think about what you feel you can do.

:Crash: Crap, there is sometype of firewall here at my job. I can see the class schedules but I can't log into WebGate. I called and they said there are four seats open at the NW campus. I am droppin' patho and takin DT 130! as soon as I can register......:uhoh3:

SGN, So which classes go with your schedule? If I am looking at the book correctly, there is fundmentals, lab and assessment the 1st 7.5 weeks, then Med surg the second 7.5 weeks. Is your Saturday 8-12 the medical math class? When you say the uniforms are not scrubs, what are they? $25 for a shirt and $35 for pants? Is it juat a t-shirt and pants?

I got my uniform shirts and pants were 20 dollars each or two for 37.99 downtown at the uniform shop that they use for their school patches. They have great deals there on all their stuff. I ended up spending about 100 bucks for everything that I needed to start clinicals. Hope this helps!

but i am not sure how much the other classes will require for reading as i do not have a syllabus for that and i am not sure how the class will be as for explaining the reading. sometimes you dont really need to read so in depth when the teacher explains everything well. we will see...

if you have (edit name per moderator) for your lecture for 110 she is going to had out modules to fill in. you can follow along with her powerpoint lecture and fill them in as you go. pay attention to the page numbers for the reading assisgnments. you will notice that if it says 7 chapters you are only ready 3 pages from one chapter verses 40.

my best advice to you is to read ahead, not put it off and annotate your text.

your nur 111 class the reading is more scattered, basically you are reading pages here and there, you never read a whole chapter. if you have (edit names per moderator) for your lab, then pay close attention to (edit names per moderator) lecture and take really good notes.

good luck!

you are so right about the negative people. i have had my fair share of encounters with negative people and they honestly don't have a drop of self-confidence. so they have to find fault in others to make themselves feel better.

as far as the program and like i told rntobe2008 before, the program is doable but it is tough. no negativity there, just bruitle honesty. it's no joke as you sgn06 have seen. if you have (edit names per moderator) for your 110 and 111 you will have a wonderful learning experience. (edit name per moderator) is tough but very fair and is always willing to help if you need it. you will really like her and (edit name per moderator) both! i really wish you would have gotten (edit name per moderator) for your assessment, i didnt have her and i sure wish i would have chosen her instead. you will know your stuff when you finish with her assessment class, but the other teachers are kind of easy but you dont really learn much more than what the book can teach ya.

good luck in your first semester of nursing school tomorrow. you will do great, just remember take great no awesome notes and then fill in the notes with your book. if you do that you will have no problem acing (edit name per moderator) test. (edit name per moderator) test are a little more difficult but for the most part they are straightforward. you just have to pay attention to the keywords and distractor words.

good luck!!!!!!!

i will try and remember all that! i have (edit name per moderator) for all my classes, but i do not know who i have for assesment as it was tba for the time slot. so i am not sure of her first name :D i will know today though!

thank you for clearing up on the uniforms downtown!

i am glad that this reading isnt going to be so bad. these chapters are long!
