Wayne County Community College District

U.S.A. Michigan

Hi Everyone! I attend Wayne County Community College District. I was wondering if anyone new anything about WCCCD's nursing program. Do they have a waiting list? If so, how long is the waiting list. Any info given will be helpful. Thanks!

Hey, does anyone know when the cut off date for Winter of 2007 to apply to the nursing program?

September 30th

Question: If they use my five pre-requisites (Micro, A & P 1 and 2, Phy 101, and Eng 100) my GPA would be 3.6 (planning on an A in A & P 2). If they used my other classes, it would bring my GPR down to 3.5.... Why would they use my other classes if it would bring my GPA down a little? Just wondering how this is going to work. I will apply on August 23 and getting nervous.

Which ever GPA is higher they will go with that one.

well orientation is long but it wasnt to bad.

as for lottery it went how i assumed it would, haper woods isnt a campus anyone wants so the left overs from western and north western are forced to go there. i was very fortunate with my lottery pick and got the classes i wanted (i was extremely lucky...)

now its just preparing for the first week of class...i have tons to do and stuff to buy....i am thinking of ways to keep organized, if anyone has ideas let me know!

yeah, i know a girl that will go to bon secours for her clinicals 2 days per week. she lives west of i-275:uhoh3: . so what campus will you have your lecture and lab? what hospital will you have your clinicals? will it change every semester? can you give me a sampling of what a typical schedule would look like. i am going to go to my application meeting next wednesday. i can't believe as of tomorrow i am totally done with pre-requisites:monkeydance: . it seems like yesterday i stolled on to campus looking for information about the nursing program.

Wait a minute, so you're not guaranteed to get classes at the western campus? Is it that you might have classes scathered all over the place?

Hi there!!! Yeah, that's what I understand in the info meeting... If you are lucky, and your name is got first in the lottery, then u will be the first one to choose your clinical and lecture sites, but if you are the last one, sorry :o, because the sites that u want might be close.

Yes Syncere, you are absolutely correct! It goes by a lottery and when your name is called you have to pick from whatever classes that are still available. You can have all of your classes scattered all over Southeast Michigan. There is no guarantee that you will obtain classes at the campus of your choice unless you are fortunate enough to be called among the first group of people.

hi,

when i started january 06 i was pick # 20 the classes were close to what i wanted. the western classes filled up the fastest. I had classes at the northwest and harper woods campas. the only class that was out of the way was the wednesday class western for medical math.

I want to make a suggestion--do not work!!! i did not believe them when they said you should not work, work has interfered with my studies and now i am out. I will try to re-apply for january, just hate that I will have to repeat all those classes over. The med-surg 1 is what i failed & pharmacology but we had a very very weak teacher( i am not making excuses) but she read from the book not really explaining the concept or breaking the information down so that it is well understood. we all can read the books but sometimes it is the understanding of what you have read.

Good luck and I wish you the best.

contact me if you have any questions

i suggest you buy a littman's stethscope not the crap they have in the bookstore you cannot hear well. the littman's are expensive but they are worth it. my first semeter the books was about 500.00+

thanks ladies for the responses! i feel better learning now about the lottery rather than finding out at the last minute. i just hope that this time next year i'll be getting ready to start the nursing program. i pray that i get all my classes at the western or northwestern campus. i would have a fit if i had to drive all the way to harper woods or the eastern campus.

don't put all your eggs in one basket. there are other nursing schools out there. i have learned the hard way, and in toledo they even have night/weekend nursing schools. i would suggest you apply to other schools, and not limit yourself to wcccd. good luck to you.
