Hi Everyone! I attend Wayne County Community College District. I was wondering if anyone new anything about WCCCD's nursing program. Do they have a waiting list? If so, how long is the waiting list. Any info given will be helpful. Thanks!
rntoben: not trying to sound like they are better then anyone else, it wasnt my intention... i didn't have a 4.0 and i wouldn't be overly anxious to retake the b's that i had either. the statements that i have made is if you don't have a 4.0 don't get your hopes up to high to get in, because that is how they made their program at wcccd, my intention with this comment is to always look forward and have alternate plans, not that you shouldn't do or even try but just be prepared. i knew a girl in my a&p class who was fantastic, she knew every ounce of that information cold, but when she went to take the tests she had major test anxiety...story goes she had a hard time even making a c in that class. gpa is not everything that is for sure... if you had bad teachers or whatever it doesn't show on the report...its just a piece of paper...but it just happens to be the only way they judge you at this particular program.i am happy that you have a plan and it sounds solid, you surely know where you are going and i wish you the best.
as for the comment on the 4.0 down above i am glad they did it this way and not the lets take some from a's some from b's and some from c's it is unfortunate that you were a .xx from the cut off it sucks but it shows that you were there you should be damn proud of that, last semester you would of been in no problem. do i think you deserve to get in the program absolutely with no question in my mind. do i think the person who didn't get in with the 3.9 above was fair nope all because they did the a/b/c thing before, that was the comment i was making. it did work out better for her in the end as it sounds like it will work out in the end for you just as well as it would for anyone else who has the determination to do this.
anyway good luck and dont hesitate to come to this thread once you make it into uofm or wayne state or madonna,i would be highly interested in where you choose to go and the comparison of the programs (check madonna out as their program matches up really well with wcccd pre-req./co-req's).
well thank you for the encouraging words and advice. i have reapplied for january. if that does not work, then i will retake my micro that i have a c in. i am not giving up. i already went down and reactivated my application, just got to redo the background thing in september and take that down to the office. i have also lined up back up programs, such as respiratory therapy and applying for wsu's nursing program as well for next fall. just in case i get another unhappy letter in november. madonna has a waiting list?? they are pretty expensive as well. so is u of d mercy. wow, the tuition is incredible. my friend got in with a 3.6 gpa, so whoever started that rumor over the phone about 3.89 being the lowest was incorrect. i will only be a semester behind you all hopefully and will be able to keep my screen name on here....
yeah madonna is costly but i know they help out with grants and try to make it affordable (i have never heard of anyone paying the full tuition before for that school). i hope you get in next semester! by this time we can all tell ya how tough it was and you will have an idea of what you are getting into! lol. i know quite a few people applying for that semester, good people to be around, i know you will like them. crossing my fingers for you.

thank you!! please post what and how it is going during your first semester. my friend also got in, and i am so excited for her. they told me at the office had i applied for last january, i would have gotten in, so i can only hope that this time around i will. i barely missed the cut off this time, so hopefully. i will check out madonna also. i just got sticker shock looking at their tuition. i am also going to apply to henry ford cc and look in to other allied health programs. i am going to keep trying. my hubby said i give up too easy. thanks for the support. good luck on your first semester also.
Just checking in, for those accepted, what are you doing now? Are you getting CPR certified? What is the next step after getting accepted and did the celebrating..... Hopefully I will be in your boat for the January semester.
Why do people LOVE to tell horror stories? I saw a girl who just started the nursing program at WCCCD last fall 2005. I asked her how it was going...why did I do that?
She went on and on about how horribly hard it is, how tired she is, how strict they are, how she wish she picked something else, blah, blah, blah. I was like, so are you going to quit? she was like no, my opportunities will be endless when I finish....I will get thru it:confused: .
My thinking is, I understand it is a difficult course, BUT it will not last forever. What is the saying? "How do you eat a big pink elephant? One bit at a time." I dunno, maybe one day I will learn not to ask questions and just wait to form my own opinions:trout: .
Just wanted to share that I have known about 4 people now say the same thing about the program. They said you live, eat and breathe nursing school, that it is very time demanding your first semester and that it is tough. I won't go in to all the details they said, but I have heard exactly the same thing you have heard. If you are determined you will get through it, as I know several who have succesfully graduated from our school and are doing great in their careers. I liked looking at the graduate pictures on the wall at the nursing office too, I can see mine up there one day.

I have a question and was hoping some of you out there might be able to help me with. Today I went to Henry Ford CC and talked with the nursing advisor. She was extremely helpful on what I need to do to get on their waitlist. She said I need to have a GPA for their school in order to get on the wait list for December. I am currently enrolled at WCCCD with the exact same classes HFCC wants me to take at their school. There is a 1 to 1.5 year waitlist, but they said they take over 300 students per year and that they are working closely with Henry Ford Hospital to allow quicker admission to the program. I have applied for WCCCD's January admit of the nursing program. Should I transfer over to HFCC and get on their waitlist or just stay at WCCCD and wait for an answer there? I am so confused and my family thinks I am making a mountain out of a molehill. Their philosphy is why change schools if your already in wayne county. I just want to keep all options open and the HFCC program is accredited by the NLN. She did say WCCCD's curriculum is good too. Does anyone know anything about HFCC's program? I know I sound wishy washy, but just trying to keep an open choice of schools to go to in the event I do not get in to WCCCD again.
hfcc is a great school for nursing. however, i wouldn’t wait 1 to 1.5 years to go into an asn program when i could take that 1 to 1.5 years to use toward a bsn and then just get into that program and graduate with a bsn the same time as the asn. ok that being said, you are not making a molehill into a mountain, i am the same worried type as you. when classes opened for enrollment on june 5th i was doing it online even though i didn't know if i was going to get into the nursing program. i did that so i would get the classes i wanted to go toward the bsn with no trouble just in case. now i was not aware that you had to have a gpa at henry ford cc to get into their program, what do they do about high school students? their requirements for the waitlist is not the rigorous seeing that they only require hs sciences and math’s to get on that list, doesn't make to much sense. it might just be that you have to be enrolled in their school/applied to their school. if i were to take anything there i would take only one class to cut costs. now that is another ticket...yes hfcc is a tad less money for tuition but compared to wsu or ocu or even uofm they really are not that great of a deal, again i would take that 1 to 1.5 years and just plug away at bsn stuff, get on their wait list straight away. i know for a fact that hfcc and wsu and any university requires chm. i know the wcccd does not, so i assume that is one of the classes you will be taking. i would just suggest to talk to the universities straight away and get on that path. if you make it in wcccd's program in jan. then so be it but if you don’t then screw it go for the bsn.
I have two questions for those accepted into the nursing program.1. Was your G.P.A. based on your overall g.p.a. or just you g.p.a. for your pre-req's?
2. I heard that WCCCD doesn't allow you to attend nursing classes in the summer. So does the two-years consist of just four semesters?
I have not been accepted yet, but from my previous application, at the office they showed my file to me and did factor in some other gen ed classes as well. They use the pre req classes first and then sometimes use the other support courses if need be. As they did in my case.

thanks for the great advice. after sleeping on it for a few days, i have decided to stay at wayne county. i am feeling pretty confident for the winter semester opening. if i don't get in for that, well i will redo a class and for sure get in the next time. it is the one class dragging down the gpa in my case. the office encouraged me to keep trying, and said i had a good gpa. they said it was the many high gpa applicants this time around. i have a myspace page and have talked to a few graduates from wcccd on there. they had great advice toward the program and they all had jobs before graduation. henry ford also said our school has a good curiculum, so i will hang in there and keep trying. you are right about the bsn thing. i am taking my chem classes as well. intro to chem this semester, and if i get in to the nursing program for january, i will finish that second chem in the summer. just to open up some doors. thanks again for the words of advice and good luck to you in the program. a good friend of mine will be starting with you. i think you will have a good class.

I can not answer #1 yet, but as for #2. I hear you can take nursing classes in the summer if you fail a certain course. So the two years really consist of 4 semesters (Fall/Winter-Spring). Actually, I think you CAN take Pharm in the summer. Maybe someone else can verify.
