  1. i will try and remember all that! i have (edit name per moderator) for all my classes, but i do not know who i have for assesment as it was tba for the time slot. so i am not sure of her first name i will know today though! thank you for clearing up on the uniforms downtown! i am glad that this reading isnt going to be so bad. these chapters are long!
  2. if you dont have (edit name per moderator) for patho online then drop it, you can do that class later while in the program or next summer or even while you are in nursing, the class isnt hard and isnt to time demanding (now that being said is only for (edit name per moderator) as i took him and have heard other teachers are more complicated) if you have (edit name per moderator) then just take both classes, seriously its not bad at all, i think you can manage it no problem. i would jump on the dt 130 before your nursing classes, it isnt that it is hard but the class is one day a week and 3 hours long and demands attention at home with nutrition tracking and the end project is time consuming. i looked at the classes online there is only three open classes so you need to get on and reg. before it is to late. however if you dont get into the dt 130 i wouldnt freak out really, think if you are already in nursing it doesnt matter about dt 130 for your transcript gpa so concentrate on nursing classes and just do your best (but pass!) dt 130, dont "study study" as you might normally. this is what i would do if i were you. hope that makes sense! of course you have to do what is best for you so really think about what you feel you can do.
  3. where there is a will there is a way- right? you have a lot going for you...1. you are in the hospital already, that is one up on a lot of people (cough me). 2. you are determined, i find it really takes someone that wants it, demands it. just like any other thing that is hard it takes serious commitment and determination, it helps to be a tad ocd (lol i think i am a bit!) negative people are just people with a bad attitude and no self-confidence. like a lot of people have said in the past, you can do anything that you set your mind to! as for your family-they are there for support use it, they will help you!
  4. we all ask that question...if only we would have been like this in high school (lol). i pass this on to my sister who is in her senior year...with luck she will be more together then i was when i did the whole high school thing! no there is not a 7.5 week dt 130 class... that class is the whole time during all your nursing classes. it isnt a pre-req to get into nursing obviously but it is a co-req for the first classes of nursing so this is why they make you take it when you are in your first semester. there is an online dt 130 class, maybe try going with that... if not then i had vera thompson who is the a very nice lady and you would do ok in the class (there is some issue with directions but hey you got me so i can clear things up). i got an a in the class but it sure was an annoying class, a lot of the stuff is repeat from a and p (which i guess isnt all bad, i was just burnt out and suffering with the whole summer deal and no breaks lol. i kept saying why did i take so many classes. then i got to that orientation and i was like o man am i glad i finished all my classes, lol! i also was not aware that dt 130 would have to be taken during the first semester, so i was happy when i had just finished it.) the only thing that is going to keep you out of the nursing program is 1. if you missed something in your packet or 2. the grade point average cut off was higher then 3.6 i wouldn’t worry about it as you know the one thing that is controlled (your packet was complete). the other is done and over with and nothing you can do about it at this time, so don’t worry to much. lol yes i was worried when i was waiting but i also was making back up plans ie. i registered on june 5th for classes that would head me towards my bsn. just have a back up that you feel ok with and just chill and it will come and i am sure you will be just fine anyway. you will be ok for the medical math, metric is an easy system to use. not so easy to remember if you are not using it but it is easy to learn. medical math is important as you get tested on it before each clinical semester. however it is not so bad to remember. dont sell your book back! use the disk that comes with the book. it has tests on it to help you learn and i found it really helpful so don’t ignore it till the last week like i did (lol). did you take patho and hsc 200 online? (quick for hsc 200 is so good, and brian jordan for patho is awesome).
  5. NUR 110 is from 3-5pm on M and R NUR 111 is from 8am-2pm M and T NUR 118 is from 8am-12pm on Sat. NUR 112 is from 3-5pm the second 7.5 weeks on M and R NUR 113 is from 7am-1pm M and T the Second 7.5 weeks I took HSC 100 Fall 05. I would suggest that all your classes be done before going into the program but the co-req's that are needed to be taken before or during the first 7.5 weeks of nursing is DT 130 and HSC 100. So if they are not done they will make you take those classes with your nursing classes (I would have issues with that myself owwch. My suggestion if you have not taken these classes do so this semester or the semester before entering the program!) The outfits are like uniforms not t-shirts. They have to have a collar and they from what I can tell in local store terms are only sold at Marshells in detroit. I have heard people can get them online for less but that is the prices I noticed when they were displaying them at the lottery. Here is a sample of something that would work for their requirements. http://www.uniformcorner.com/acatalog/Peaches4377.html
  6. but i am not sure how much the other classes will require for reading as i do not have a syllabus for that and i am not sure how the class will be as for explaining the reading. sometimes you dont really need to read so in depth when the teacher explains everything well. we will see...
  7. That is for one class.
  8. i was very lucky as i was called within 8 people for the western campus. i got garden city for my clinical which is awesome, either hospital would have been ok with me but i wanted garden city because the teacher is the same as my theory and my lab class teacher so there will be consistency in the way she teaches. i don't have a teacher assigned for my assessment class yet though. each semester the lottery is held but as you may know with every semester the class size gets smaller. there is always a chance you will not get the campus you want each semester, i just hope i am as fortunate as i was this semester. my schedule for classes is m 8am-2pm/3pm-5pm, t 8am-2pm, r 3pm-5pm, and sat. 8am-12pm. this is for the first 7.5 weeks mind you they gave us info for the nur 110 for reading assignments/test schedule, it is no joke, there are 7 chapters in the first week of class followed by a quiz the day you get back to class after the weekend. i have been reading to get ahead...not hard stuff but not easy...remember that soc 100 class, o yes you will be using theories of sociology that come from nursing at least for this portion from what i can tell my schedule for the next 7.5 weeks is: m 7am-1pm/3pm-5pm, t- 7am-1pm, r- 3pm-5pm and there is no sat. anymore at this point. now plan on about 500.00 for books for the first semester/but of course you can wait a little to buy the second 7.5 weeks books (med/surg. is about 100.00). the uniforms are not scrubs so budget about 25 a shirt and 30 for pants...o and bring about 10.00 with you at your orientation...they don't tell you that but you need it to get your name tags made and they are discounted for that day. well anyway- good luck!!!!! i will post in on how i am doing once everything starts. i can't believe it is next week...
  9. there is no guarantee where you classes will be this is true....but you are not scattered all over. they are very precise in what classes you are permitted to take. soooo if you are at western for your theory class then you are at western for all your classes and your clinical are at local hospital around that campus ie. oakwood's annapolis or garden city. if you are at harper woods then you will have lab at nw campus because they do not have labs at haper woods, other then that you are at and around harper woods area. that campus is the last to fill and the run offs of the other groups go there typically. i hope that clears it up a little- the schedule in the reg. book for classes are not accurate.
  10. well orientation is long but it wasnt to bad. as for lottery it went how i assumed it would, haper woods isnt a campus anyone wants so the left overs from western and north western are forced to go there. i was very fortunate with my lottery pick and got the classes i wanted (i was extremely lucky...) now its just preparing for the first week of class...i have tons to do and stuff to buy....i am thinking of ways to keep organized, if anyone has ideas let me know!
  11. Orientation is tomorrow and friday.
  12. It isnt 100% clear how they really look at the grades...I think if you are above the lower then you will be fine. Which a 3.5 or 3.6 is a pretty decent bet that you will be ok. Good Luck!
  13. Hey there, Check out Washtenaw County Community College. There CNA program is 3 weeks long and is only about 350 dollars to take. GL!
  14. hfcc is a great school for nursing. however, i wouldn’t wait 1 to 1.5 years to go into an asn program when i could take that 1 to 1.5 years to use toward a bsn and then just get into that program and graduate with a bsn the same time as the asn. ok that being said, you are not making a molehill into a mountain, i am the same worried type as you. when classes opened for enrollment on june 5th i was doing it online even though i didn't know if i was going to get into the nursing program. i did that so i would get the classes i wanted to go toward the bsn with no trouble just in case. now i was not aware that you had to have a gpa at henry ford cc to get into their program, what do they do about high school students? their requirements for the waitlist is not the rigorous seeing that they only require hs sciences and math’s to get on that list, doesn't make to much sense. it might just be that you have to be enrolled in their school/applied to their school. if i were to take anything there i would take only one class to cut costs. now that is another ticket...yes hfcc is a tad less money for tuition but compared to wsu or ocu or even uofm they really are not that great of a deal, again i would take that 1 to 1.5 years and just plug away at bsn stuff, get on their wait list straight away. i know for a fact that hfcc and wsu and any university requires chm. i know the wcccd does not, so i assume that is one of the classes you will be taking. i would just suggest to talk to the universities straight away and get on that path. if you make it in wcccd's program in jan. then so be it but if you don’t then screw it go for the bsn.
  15. Can anyone tell me what the books are for the nursing classes as well as an est. on what the price might be on the books. Are they more then the typical school book or just about the same. Let me know if you know anything!
