  1. I don't want to make any bad decisions so if you have any input please help! I just completed my CNA course and I'm now State Certified. I want to work in the hospital but I'll take whatever I can get right now. So far I haven't really found any jobs in MI but I'm sure I can find something in LTC or Assisted Living. Anyway, my plans are to go through the nursing program at the local community college (haven't started yet-looking to start winter 07)) and get my AD and become a RN. However, I need to make money to support my family in the mean time. So, I was wondering if it was benefical (or a waste of money) for me to take an online course to become a Patient Care Technician through Allied Health Institute. It's 4mos online and one month of clinicals. Upon completion I can take the following exams: National Certified Patient Care Technician (NCPCT) National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT) National Certified ECG Technician (NCET) Nationally Registered title of Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NRCPT) Nationally Registered title of Certified EKG Technician (NRCEKG) I figure that I will be able to make money money after having these skills. The program is at http://www.alliedhealthinstitute.org/show.aspx?mi=2639 Has anyone taken this course? Is it possible to be trained on the job for these skills? I don't want to spend any unecessary money. Should I just focus on the RN program? Thank you for any input. Jason
  2. I just got state certified as a nursing assistant and now I'm looking for a job. I would prefer to work in a hospital but it seems really hard to get into one. They are usually looking for at least 6mos to a year experience. I was wondering if anyone was in the same boat or have been there. Also, if you are working in a hospital did you get training in phlebotomy? Should I take a course or hope to get into the hospital for training? Thanks!!
  3. Someone I know gave me one although it doesn't work very well. I needed it for the class clinicals at a nursing home. Where do you work? I really hope I can work at one of the hospitals around here. I think you might have to take the training to take the test even though you have been a nurse aide. You may be able to get an exemption. I am taking a 3 week course at the Institute for Health Professionals. The cost is 675.00 (includes book)They are in Dearborn. The only other training I know of is through Red Cross. Are you at WCCCD-Belleville? Are you in the nursing program or taking prereqs?
  4. I am completing my CNA training and was wondering if anyone had an extra stethoscope and BP cuff that they could donate. I could meet someone or whatever. I know this may sound weird but I'm realllllly broke right now and need help. I'm in the Belleville area. If you can help email [email protected]. Thank you so much!!

Hi, I'm a little confused on the LPN programs vs. the RN programs in the Detroit area. Right now I'm taking the CNA course and will be working at a hospital upon completion. I'm in Wayne county so I'm planning on going into the nursing program at WCCCD. I know this program will allow me to take the RN test afterwards but I was wondering how do I become a LPN first while taking the classes to be a RN? I can't seem to find that information anywhere. It seems all the programs around here are for RN. Help. Thanks.
