I just graduated in in December with my ADN. I just started a job in Pediatric home healthcare to try to get some experience with pediatrics and am going to volunteer at a local Children's hospital to try to get my foot in the door. I am trying to determine how long I should wait until I start applying for the jobs at the Children's hospital? I was thinking 6 months. Does this seem to short? The PHHC is only per diem and I would like something Full time/Part time that is constant, yet I do plan to stay per diem at the PHHC agency. I would love some advise.

May sound crazy, but I worked in peds home health for a month and through that time was applying for jobs at a local childrens hospital. I got a call back from the childrens hospital after putting my current job on my resume and writing about some of my current experiences in peds home health in my cover letter. If it's what you want I say go for it!! I got the job at the hospital and I could not be happier :) Start putting your experience down on your resume, it shows you are serious about working with kids! Good luck to you!

As soon as possible in my opinion. If the children's hospital is where you want to be, then get there. I don't know if you will necessarily get an interview right away but it doesn't hurt to apply to open positions. I may say give it a short while if you committed to a facility/agency but you are only per diem and will continue to be after you get a new job so I don't see anything wrong with getting something full time.

As soon as possible - especially since you are per diem.
