hey guys,
I start this fall in my nursing program and Im extremely anxious!!! Im looking for any advice that will help me in school. Whats the thing you can NOT live w/o during nursing school? What was the best study method for you? Index cards, recorders, palm pilots? What should I take to clinicals? I know you all were anxious when u started!!!
thanks guys
p.s. ....im hoping this will end up being a HUGE thread that other anxious students can read
I actually think that is a good way to approach the class any way. always read the material BEFORE going into class whether you have to or not, that way it will be familiar and you can clarify muddy spots. I agree with the caffeine, fast meals, and lack of sleep....but we are strong, and we will do what we have to! I also, am like you, in that C's would make me seriously sad. If I am going to torture my body with lack of sleep and chemicals, I better get a great grade out of it! First major test is Wed. Wish me luck! And best of luck to you as your adventure continues.
august 24th, and we're in the or, putting real people to sleep.i am scared to death. reading my morgan & mikhail (source book for crna boards) cover to cover, remembering that i've kept much worse alive on much less, and just breathing.
good luck to you all, god bless y'all, and pm me if you need any help/support/encouragement/answers. i may not know them, but we will figure out the right direction in which to point you.
good luck in your crna adventure! i hope to be in your shoes in a few years! hope your first day went well.
I am a graduate and actually take my nclex in two days. However, about reading before class keep something in mind. If you are given powerpoints then use those as your guide in what to read. I tell you this, because time management is crucial and you do not want to read chapters after chapeters that might not be discussed in class at all. So, I looked at my powerpoints first before class and everything that was unclear when I read them I would look up in the book. this saved me a lot of time and gave me more time to focus on the content that they would actually teach and test on.

I've just started nursing school and after attempting to read each chapter, I've resorted to this exact strategy. The first three weeks are considered really intense (17 chapters to read in one week) and I found it really helpful just to focus on the powerpoint slides, and then refer to the chapters in the book for more clarification. It really is a time saver, and it helps you to stay focused. Anywho, good luck on passing the NCLEX!! :)
Well.....survived the first week. I feel SO unorganized. Ugh. None of our assignments in any of my classes have dates on them. I'm not sure how a syllabus can exist without dates on it LOL 3 classes - no dates whatsoever anywhere.
Soooo....I'm in the process of dating everything in our packets. I'm going to check mark them as soon as I finish the assignment. I'm glad I bought so many binders and folders.
I also got the job I wanted :) It's been a great week!
Great job on the grades, guys! Now....anyone wanna give me tips on doing BPs? I'm going to open lab on Monday to practice. I'm hoping all the chatter around me was making it harder to hear the sounds.
OH! I just read a thread about VS issues and discovered....I wasn't using my scope right :icon_roll Rock on, me! Apparently you have to press down hard on the Lightweights. Now I can hear everything fine lol
I'm tired, but I'm still super stoked to be in class finally.
There are several good sites that let you listen to the various Korotkoff sounds for BP's.

You poor baby! Sorry to hear about your kidney stone - and lots of fluids to clear the ureters AND the anesthesia!
Good continued luck to y'all! It doesn't get much easier in a master's program...one of the girls who started my program 2 weeks ago called me this week and said, "You tried to warn me, I know you did...but I just had NO idea!"
