I want to become a nurse but I'm not really good at math and my written has become really bad. I graduated from high school about 3 years ago. i was suppsed to join the marines..but my parents wanted me to Reserves but i want to join active duty,So out of respected for them i took 1 year off to think about it spend time with family. Then the 2rd year my step dad died in our house right next to my mom and a few other family members....so it was a very rough time for my me and my family. Look i dont wanna give you my life story here my point is the last 3 years has been **** for me, i spent the last 3 years doing nothing but playing video games. I guest it was my way of caping with everything i ended up meeting someone and Experience so many new feels and things i never thought were even posible. so too make a long story short i find that the more new things i experience in life the more i questioned joining the marines...so now i wanna be a nurse. Why??? Because i truly enjoy hoping others thats what makes me happy more then anything in the world, so this spring i plan on enrolling into community college. Im not 100% sure what Type of nurse i wanna be but i im thinking i wanna work in a icu , but im just not sure i have what it takes anymore. I'm not that great in math my written sucks now in fact this is the longst thing i written in a while and I'm afarid i just dont have what it takes to make it into the nursing field. I always done pretty well in anything having to do with science or History... But i guest when you spend 3 year being sad n sitting on the your ass this is what happens. And like i said i wont bore you with all the details but.lifes been a ***** to my family but i learned you cant let every lil thing in life stop you o yea also i have a learning Disability
For the school I'm looking at i need a 3.0 to get it but a 3.7 would be nice 7 is my lucky number. Will I have spoke to the navy officer before but now I'm thinking of joining the guard not 100% sure but back when I wanted too join the marines I never even thought about being a nurse till last year.
Lol how did her n it her in their?? Too her into the habit of studying 1 hour a day
Whether or not you decide to pursue nursing, I encourage to do some serious work on your writing and communication skills. They are incredibly weak. Improving yourself in this area will serve you very well no matter what you decide to do in the future. It will not be wasted effort even if you are not accepted to a nursing program.
Good luck to you.
Look that was a error which I fixed and no disrespect if you have nothing helpful too stay then plz stay off my post. I have even said myself that my writing skills were horrible, I been out of schools for almost 4 years now I have learning disabilities so **** happens. So I really don't need you to tell me what I all ready know.. btw i was in fact accepted into 3 schools just need a lil encouragement that's why I'm here.
Lol way to let a guy down easy like i said i have been out of school for 3 years and have a disability. Anyway out here in nyc you can work as a rn with out your bsn but with in 24 months you most be inrolled for some Type of school to her your bsn. My plan is to work as a rn while attending a nursing school that does rn to bsn in 1 year its a fast track Type of thing. And yea sadly you are right i gotta study study study but i learn 100% better in class then at home or online do studying is out of the question for me. So i plan on just focus in school like i always do n join after school study groups.. the problem with math is its just very boring to me even more so when im learning things i want need but i plan on keeping at least a 3.0 in college which i know i can do if i put Mt mind too it.
I'm not trying to let you down, I'm trying to be realistic. It's enrolled, not inrolled. Those are the kind of things I am trying to point out. I suggested community college so you could get the help you need.
Do you have any idea how many people have learning disabilities in this nation? Many. Everyone has some kind of story, you using it as an excuse won't get you into nursing school and succeed. I'm suspecting your poor English has more to do with being on the xbox for three years, and not worrying about anything else.
I was trying to help you and point you in the right direction. And if you choose to ignore my advice, that's great, I just don't want to hear about your 4.0 classmates getting in the program and you didn't. I also know you can work in the state of New York with a ASN. In the city, in a hospital, different story. Maybe in a LTC, but I would be surprised with a new hire being hired in as an ASN. This is where that research I told you to do comes in handy as I don't live there, but just know what I have been told. By the way, I am enrolled in an ASN program. But I know my job market.
I was never a good math student until I got to doing nursing math. It's a different kind of math in my opinion. Of course everyone might figure out a rate in different ways wether by formula or setting it up so the units cancel out. It takes practice and it never hurts to have someone else verify it.

I think there have been many helpful posts here. I'm sorry you are offended, but it's important you realize that your writing is CRITICAL not only to being accepted to a program, but to being taken seriously as a professional. What you write in a chart is considered to be a legal document. Additionally, your charting could someday be used in a lawsuit and you will see your written words in living color, large and looming in a document. If it is not clear, concise, and accurate, you could find yourself in a world of trouble. Nursing math is very basic and not remotely your main problem. The people here want the best for you. I think you need to be not defensive, but open to all posts, as you DID come here asking for advice.

Oh, don't forget to defiantly brush up on your basic math because just like heather said in nursing you have a lot of dosage calculation you must be able to do for patient safety. I know at my school the nursing program requires you to take a dosage test every semester and you must pass it with at least a 90 or you are cut from the program! I am horrible at math but I am taking an elective offered at my school which is math for medications and it is really preparing me for the math portion of nursing school!
