Wake Tech Spring 2017 Start

U.S.A. North Carolina

Anyone submitting an application to the nursing program at WTCC this upcoming July for spring 2017? Wanted to connect with others who may be in my shoes. I'm still working on some prerequisites (TEAS and CNA) but hope to finish them up by May. I will be transferring most of my prerequisites in from another school.

No problem WSmom!! 13 days ladies!!!!!! Tick tock tick tock!!:roflmao:

210 Spring applicants???!!! OMG!! My anxiety just drove to Canada..lol! I doubt the points will be the same bc they change each cohort. They make changes so that they can keep their program competitive and also keep the students on their toes. The advisor I met with back in July said points could be between 150-160. That sounds about right bc Fall was 162-210. Also keep in mind that, just bc people applied doesn't mean they're all eligible for clinicals. Just a thought. I'm claiming my seat! :roflmao:

22bebe, CNA, how many points did you have last semester?

I had 147 but now I have 159 from the TeasV retake.

So crazy that there were 210 applicants! That's 7 more than the fall! I feel like this cycle is going to be just as competitive as the fall! So eager to hear the status of my application at the end of this month. Maybe the advisor is right when they predicted 150-160. Just because there are that many applicants may not mean the points range will that high. Fingers cross for everyone! I feel like there are so many people rooting for me to get into this program, I'm going to be devastated if I don't get in!

22bebe, CNA, I know it takes a while to create letters for all 210 applicants, but I wonder if the program at least knows the point range for spring 2017. Not sure what the strategy is when it comes to ranking. Maybe the program already knows the point range but is working on creating letters to send out in a couple of weeks? Did you get anymore interesting information besides there being 210 applicants?

Laila34, I know that the program makes changes to make things more competitive, but they can't really change the initial points range once the application deadline has passed and they have their applicants for the upcoming cohort, right? Once those students are ranked, the initial acceptance points is determined by the applicants, not the staff (the staff just calculates the points). I hope your advisor is right about the 150-160... I know the advisors previously said there are typically more applicants in the fall than the spring, but this semester has unfortunately proven that wrong very quickly. I'm starting to get this gut feeling that points may be a tad higher in the spring than the fall.

CN_2BRN919, I'm not sure how they do things really, but I don't think the points range will change bc of the number of applicants. It just wouldn't make sense. I'm sure they already have a point threshold in place and can't be changed. Regardless of the applicant pool, they're going to choose the top ranked students. In the past, the Spring has ALWAYS been lower than the Fall. There is no reason for it to magically be higher bc of the number of applicants. I also believe that the reason why it's more applicants is bc of their most recent changes i.e., CNA (last year to challenge), most recent grade earned used instead of 1st grade, and allowing students to retake courses for summer and count towards July applications. I have faith in what the advisor said and that's what I'm hoping for. In 12 days, we will know our fate and all questions will cease. KEEP THE FAITH AND COMMENCE THE WAIT!!!!

Laila34, thank you for easing my mind some. I guess I was really stressing the most thinking that since there are more applicants there would be more points. The only reason I thought that was because the fall typically has more applicants which I thought was the reason behind why the points were always higher. But it could just be because students who have higher points just tend to apply in the fall. I asked Ms. BW over the summer why the spring tends to be a little less competitive, and she said it's because the spring typically has less applicants and the applicants who apply tend to present a broader range of points. But you're totally right about all those changes! I think that's the reason why there were 210 people who applied! Soon we will know! Trying to keep the faith :)

You're welcome CN_2BRN919!! We're here to help ease each other's mind. That's why I love this thread bc no one understands my worries, rants, and cries for answers more than you ladies. It's a great way for us to vent respectfully and with genuine care. That's why we are soon to be Registered Nurses, so that we can share the same care and love to our patients. :inlove:

Hi ladies! Good news: letters are supposed to be mailed this week so we should hear by the end of next week! So close!!

Hey!! So it's true?? Mailed this Friday? I'm so excited and anxious!! This waiting period is taking a toll on my body. I've been stressing about this more than I knew until yesterday, my fiancé told me that I've lost weight. I didn't believe him so I weighed myself and have lost 10 pounds. He was right. I will be glad when this process is over. Just curious, have any of you used the "program evaluation" in webadvisor? Is that what the nursing department uses for advising?
