Wake Tech Spring 2017 Start

Published

Anyone submitting an application to the nursing program at WTCC this upcoming July for spring 2017? Wanted to connect with others who may be in my shoes. I'm still working on some prerequisites (TEAS and CNA) but hope to finish them up by May. I will be transferring most of my prerequisites in from another school.

I'll be working as well. The guy who worked full time said his grades sometimes reflected it. But he is now a RN for wake med so it must not have been too bad. Like Aperegoy said it is random scheduling but you have your schedule for months so you can plan work around that. The only thing that made me a little nervous was everyone kept saying how important it is to be flexible which is hard to do if you have to work as well.

Aperegoy I too was hoping that people who maybe got into two programs would pick the other one because some people sounded like the scheduling might be an issue for them.

If you volunteer to do night clinical that semester does that mean you'll always have clinicals at night the rest of the program? It's a 12 hour right?

Clinical times for the morning and evening vary a little each day so it is important to pay attention to the schedule. In the beginning you are doing clinicals one day a week (Thursday). The earliest time for morning is 645. You are there for 4 to 5 hrs it looks like. For evening cliniclas they all start at 130 and you're done either at 630 or 730. They generally take volunteers for evening BC it is a smaller group so you probably wouldn't change as you switch to Nur 112. I would volunteer BC I am not a morning person. For anyone curious, the schedule looks to be:

Monday: 8-12 (lecture)

Tuesday: 8-12 (lab or lecture I can't tell)

Wednesday: A group 8-12 (lab)

B group 1-5 (lab)

Thursday: clinicals

Friday: test, assessments, ect.

It does vary a little but that seems to be the general set up for nur 111. Also just because you are group B (evening lab), doesn't mean you have to do evening clinicals.

For students who have completed all the prerequisites and would only need to take NUR classes, would they still have to go into WebAdvisor and register for classes or are they automatically put into a class since the program puts us in groups?

You still have to sign up but you can't sign up until after you get your class assignment. They tell you which section to sign up for each semester. You just don't have to rush to do it since you are guaranteed your seat.

Does anyone remember how long after they took the CNA exam did their name actually show up on the online registry? I was told 7-10 days by my instructor. Not sure if anyone remembers from firsthand experience...

So every time I checked to see if I was listed nothing came up. They were having some kind of error which we were notified about and told there would be a little longer of a delay. After like a month (I think) I still didn't see my name so I called. Turned out they had my first and middle name in the first name place and I had been on there for a while. She said that doesn't happen often but just in case you may want to try with both when checking!

I was told that after you pass the exam they give you a sheet of paper showing you passed just in case you have to show proof to someone that you are certified... until your name shows up on the registry? Is that true? If so, I wonder if I could attach that to my nursing application if for some reason my name wasn't showing up.

They do give you something that says pass. If it doesn't show up before you want to turn in your application I would attach it. I don't know if it is necessary but I am a "just in case" type of person. With mine I attached a print screen of the registry. I took my cna class at wake tech so they can see that I did 40 hrs but I attached a copy of my certificate showing I did 40 hrs anyways lol. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I'm that type of person too Emily lol! But th Wake Tech CNA programs include the 40 hours of clinical correct? Students don't have to do 40 hours outside of the program? I was thinking you were about to say you did 40 hours in addition to the program just in case lol!

Lol no I didn't get that neurotic about it. The program includes the 40 hrs. At the end we were given a certificate that says we competed 40 hrs of clinicals. I just attached a copy of that even though it was completely unnecessary lol.

My certificate just says that the program was 168 hours; it doesn't say how many hours of the 168 hours were clinical hours... and I did my course at Wake Tech. How long ago did you finish your course? I wonder if they just changed the layout of their completion certificates.
