Waiting lists at Ventura College and Moorpark College

U.S.A. California

Published

I'm about done with my prerequisites and I've found out my husband may be tranferred for 3 years to Ventura county. Does anyone know what the waitlist usually is at these two schools? Or do you know of any other schools in that area that may have a lesser wait? I'm really hopeful to be able to do the ADN program during our 3 years in California. Thanks for any advice you may have!

I would count on at least a year for Ventura College, so make sure you have all of the prereqs finished along with having your CNA before you get here. Ventura College chooses applicants by a lottery system, so better to get your name in the pool as soon as you get here to try to finish in the three years. I don't have much information about Moorpark. There are other programs in the Santa Barbara and L.A. area, but I doubt that waiting lists are any shorter - AND you will have to commute (which can be a nightmare).

Best of luck to you!

I am sure Moorpark does not keep a wait list, unless this is new in the past month or two. Moorpark has a great program - my friend is in the 4th semester. To get accepted you just apply - if you don't get in you would re-apply the next semester, if you choose to do so. They have not kept a wait list in the past.

I recently graduated from the community college in Valencia Ca, College of the Canyons. The wait list is two years as a rule. Strictly a numbers wait list. I have heard that Ventura is about a year on the lottery system. Good school and difficult, from what I've heard. If you are going to live in Ventura I would recommend you try and go to Ventura College. When you do clinicals you have to drive to different hospitals. VC goes to hospitals within the county and 30 minute drive is usually the max. If you live in Ventura and have to commute to Valencia to school and then LA area hospitals, not fun!! Lots of traffic!!

I think VC would be your best bet. Don't know much about Moorpark. Good Luck!

I graduated Moorpark College many years ago, and was on the waiting list for 1 1/2 years. I do not know now if they have done away with waiting lists.

Theres a new california state university, channel islands in camarillo that opened 5-6 years ago. They are starting a BSN program Fall of 2007, if you have good GPA and volunteer hours, live in region etc. it might be easier to get in there. There BSN program is 3 years long, so if you have the pre-reqs done already it might be worth thinking about versus a community college ADN program.

I had actually forgotten that they are starting this program.....unfortunately I don't think it's going to be any easier to get in at CSUCI. They are already putting the program on impacted status and will only accept about 36 students per year. Every nursing program in this state is impacted.

I dont know if this will help anyone because its so late. But Moorpark moved to a points system, my friend just got her letter of enrollment before they did that and it took her 2 and a half years. Now its all supposed to be based on your grade and your tease score. Ventura has basically no wait list. I talked to a councilor in Sept took the TEAS in oct and start in Jan. Ventura is talking about going to a points system as well.

Hope this helps anyone picking between the two =)

Thanks Amac for your reply! I am just starting my prereqs at VC, I was torn between taking them at VC or Moorpark (I know they transfer) but I will stick with what I've got. Good luck! And if you were going to take your CNA class would you recommend taking it while taking Anatomy or Chem (as far as class load).
