To own a pet or not while in nursing school...
I actually just started fostering dogs! I would suggest going this route. I am 6 hours from home and my family and live with two roommates whom love dogs too. It works well for us when i am gone all day at clinical they play and let the dogs out. Also being 21 and in college i know its not the best time in my life to adopt a dog and commit to a 10-15 year commitment. So fostering dogs is the perfect solution for me! The rescue group I foster for pays for all medical and food bills and supplies me with crate and others doggy supplies! It really is the perfect solution for me, i get doggy love and am helping out homeless pups before they get adopted out to forever homes :) So look for local rescue groups in your area to find out how you can help/foster!

Denied
I just found out today I got denied from the BSN program at cal state channel Islands I applied for. My question is what to do next? I have a decent GPA of 3.53 and TEAS test score of 78.1%. I realize I am young and have time, at 19, but I am paying my own way through college and want to complete school in 4 years. If I wait to apply next fall it will take me 5 years total. I was thinking of transferring to 2 year nursing programs in either California, Oregon, or Nevada but don't know of any specifically. Any suggestions, besides raising my GPA...what is considered competitive? Is any one else in this situation? Thanks

Waiting lists at Ventura College and Moorpark College
Theres a new california state university, channel islands in camarillo that opened 5-6 years ago. They are starting a BSN program Fall of 2007, if you have good GPA and volunteer hours, live in region etc. it might be easier to get in there. There BSN program is 3 years long, so if you have the pre-reqs done already it might be worth thinking about versus a community college ADN program.

Interview Questions
Hi all,K I was wondering if one or acouple of you would be able to respond to questions I have reguarding this profession. I am enrolled in a college Health and society class which is the lead class of the health and bioscience academy at my high school which i have been apart of for three years. A project in this class is a career investigation project. I have been interested in the profession of CNS for some time and am currently applying to nursing schools for my BSN; hence I have decided to do my project on advanced nursing careers. A section of this project is an interview with a professional. If one or several of you could answer my questions it would be greatly appreciated. You can respond to the thread or private message me, thank you. Your Name: (last name initial is fine) 1- How did you decide to become a CNS? 2- How did you get your first job in the field? 3- Is continueingeducationa requirement? 4- What aspects of your job do you find to be rewarding? 5- What aspects of your job do you find to be most challenging? 6- How has this kind of work changed since you first entered the profession? 7- What do you do during a typical day/week? 8- What are the most important skills( or knowledge, or attitude) necessary to be succesful in your career? 9-If you had any advice to give to a high school studetn considering your profession, what would it be? 10- What reading/resreach would you suggest that would help me to learn more about your profession? Thank you for any respones! I would appreciate responses by thrusday night, thanks agian. Katie

Surgery Field trip!
Yesterday for my health and society class we took a field trip, I got to go to a hospitals surgery center and watch a gastric by pass surgery! The thing is i'm still a senior in high school so its really awesme that my teacher could set this up. Anyways I got to stand right there, 5 feet from the patient the entire procedure, it was so cool!!!!!!!! gahhh it makes me so excited to go into the health field, it was just so intriging!.....it makes me want to go to med school and become a surgeon lol. Maybe after i get my BSN in 4 years I'll decide to lol you never know! Anyways I also met several surgical nurses and that specality also seems very interesting! Sorry for my ramblings, this just got my all pumped up to be a nurse.....or doctor! lol Has anyone else ever heard of highschool kids being allowed to watch a surgery? Of course the patient gave her consent for us to, but it is really that rare? Thanks for you responses!
