I thought it might be nice to have a place for us to vent our frustrations with waiting until May 30th or so when letters start going out. I know I'm going nuts already!
How about introductions and a little info about each person?
I'm applying to both Bloomington and Indy-Lawrence for the Fall 2009 ASN programs. I turned in my apps this week with 4 As on the pre-reqs and a 90.0 on the TEAS. My eventual goal is at least getting a BSN, and if I feel like doing homework long enough, an MSN of some sort. I work full time now, but will hopefully only work part time if I get accepted. I'm so antsy to start preparing and finally feel like all of this is real!
smweb - You're in good company with the mailbox checking insanity :)
Which rolling backpack did you buy? One from a website or one that you found in an irl store? I've got a few bookmarked so far, but it's hard to decide since I can't see and touch them.
I've rounded up my Hep B vaccine records + titer, and my records from my tetorifice shot back in 2004. I'm doing my CPR class this morning.
I've got tons of things like stethoscopes and bp cuffs bookmarked, but I don't want to buy any of them until I know if there are any specific requirements.
MasonsMommy - I looked at my photocopy of my Bloomington application and there was only a yes/no place for if the applicant attended a nursing session, and that was in the "for staff only" section of the paper so... I've GOT to stop freaking out about this, I even emailed the nursing in charge lady about it back in March and she said I was fine so there really isn't a need to worry but if you all haven't noticed I'm a little, um... high strung ;P
Columbus doesn't have their stuff together. Send the letters!!
I applied there, to both ASN and LPN. The lady told me that I only need one copy of transcripts and Teas score, etc. That's what she took from me. I had both but she didn't take them. My friend went to the very last info session and went to apply and she needed 2 copies of everything (one for ASN, one for LPN). She only had one copy and could only apply to one program.
They really need to have ONE set of rules. I imagine the lady who took my stuff was incorrect. I applied to lots of places b/c I was afraid I wouldn't get in anywhere. I'm still waiting on letters from Btown and Columbus. I chose Indy though. I really didn't think I would get into Btown but I wanted to try just in case.
Keep Strong everyone!! Your letters WILL come...eventually.
**********Preparations I've made:************
I have a rollling backpack. I love it. I got it when I started school and it makes things much easier!! It's not black though, hope that doesn't matter.
1. Supplies: waiting on the list to make sure I get the right stuff.
2. Shots: Trying to round up shot records. I got my records from when i was a kid but it looks like there are only 4 diff shots on there. (some multiple sessions though). how many do we need on there? I had some taken in Johnson county and my pedi never sent them to Health Dept. Guess I'll have to do that titer thing (?)
3. Medical: I dont really have a family doctor, need to do get one anyway. Gonna call and make an appt for AFTER the info session. Will take a list in of everything I need her to do.
4. Drug Screen/Background Check/That kind of stuff: have NO idea where to do that. Hopefully they will give us the information we need.
5. CPR Certification: taking the class through Ivy Tech.
That's all I've done/thought about so far.
Schedules: I wonder how they schedule you????? Is it going to be a first come-first serve type of thing so I need to get in line ASAP so I get the times I want? How many students per class?

Congrats to everyone who got letters Monday and Tuesday! Still hoping the rest of you will get your letters today or very, very soon. Hang in there!
For those of you who are in, have you started preparing yet? Anyone bought any supplies? I have been looking at stethoscopes but am forcing myself to wait until orientation in case there are specific guidelines we need to adhere to when purchasing. I did buy a rolly back pack though. Not sure if they are required but I swear every single nursing student I have ever seen at Indy had a black rolling bag and never anything different. So I got one so I would blend in
Ack! I am so excited!!
