Waiting on Ivy Tech acceptance letters thread

Published

I thought it might be nice to have a place for us to vent our frustrations with waiting until May 30th or so when letters start going out. I know I'm going nuts already!

How about introductions and a little info about each person?

I'm applying to both Bloomington and Indy-Lawrence for the Fall 2009 ASN programs. I turned in my apps this week with 4 As on the pre-reqs and a 90.0 on the TEAS. My eventual goal is at least getting a BSN, and if I feel like doing homework long enough, an MSN of some sort. I work full time now, but will hopefully only work part time if I get accepted. I'm so antsy to start preparing and finally feel like all of this is real!

I think that APHY201 will be really useful once we're in nursing school, so that's why I'm suffering through it. Plus the fact that I'll definitely go on for my BSN and possibly NP. I've heard that most BSN programs require 10 hours of A&P and I figured I'd be better off taking it all as close together as possible.

I took both regular and AP chem back in high school so I've not technically taken any chem classes in college. My AP chem was the exact same class as Chem 105 at IU though. When I'm getting ready to go back for my BSN if I need to, I'll just take chem at a community college around me then. I'm not worried about chem at all because I always enjoyed learning it.

Yesterday I was bored at work and actually counted how many days and hours and seconds until the letters go out. I need professional help!

Melissa - I think your background is going to be insanely helpful in nursing school, you're lucky to have such a complementing background!

Is anyone taking microbiology online thru Terre Haute? if so did you get an email from the teacher explaining the class this summer. She made it sound pretty hardcore. what do you think if you are taking this class online this summer & received this email?

I'm in that class and I got the email today. My impression was that she just wanted everyone to know exactly what to expect in case they want to drop now. I think many students think that online courses are a joke and that they won't be as difficult, which is not the case. I think she just wants to make sure that's clear so there aren't any surprises. I think students that will do well in the course are the same ones that do well in other courses-- have solid work ethics, self motivated, and work as hard as necessary to do well. My impression of those of us that post on this board is that we are all that way, so I don't think we have anything to worry about. I think it will be a challenging course online and in a live classroom. I've taken many online courses and the biggest reason I've seen that students don't do well in them is because they aren't organized or self directed--they can't keep track of what needs to be done and when. They don't take the initiative to study when they need to study and get behind. I think, given what I "know" of you from this board, that you will be just fine :)

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I went to class with somebody that got a 98 on the teas with all A's in the prereqs! Don't get too worried though. Last year I was in the same spot waiting for my letter. We didn't get them until the middle of June. For those that think they will be able to work full time...forget it. The nursing program is tough! The first semester is the worst...they stress you until you feel like your mind is blowing a gasket. Many fail a class and have to retake. I have been lucky so far. YOU HAVE TO STUDY!

A 98 on the TEAS? Ugh...

Ok, I had my first bad dream about this waiting! In my dream Ivy Tech notified me that one of my A's was a mistake, and that I actually had a 203. I remember commenting that was still a competitive score. They then told me this cycle had the highest scores and that I would more likely be chosen for the LPN class. "But I only applied for RN ...."

ACK!

Hi mkmm47! - where do you attend classes?

cthomas - I'm glad I'm not the only one having nightmares! I just keep thinking of all of these wacky things that could *possibly* come up, no matter how unlikely, and freaking out over them. I also only applied to the RN program too, I'm hoping that wasn't a mistake.

cthomas - I had a similar dream, only it was my TEAS they said was a mistake! I'd bet our adrenal cortex / zona fasiculata is in overdrive with cortisol secretion right now! How's that for a little ANP/Endocrine application! I'm SO ready to be DONE with 102 - Test 3 on Tuesday! You know it's bad when you look at your hubby and think anatomical terms! LOL! :lol2:

You're right Momma Sue! After learning the mechanisms of a male .... um.... release during you-know-what, I couldn't help but think of the different stages as it was happening! "Oh there's the ______". "Yup now it's ________". "Oh, now I know why that happens!" Such a mood killer!

(I tried to write that as innocuous as possible - I'm sorry if the reference offends anyone!:innerconf)

That is one fear that I totally have! I submitted my second TEAS and I'm worried they won't take it since it says "Days since last TEAS - 30". I'm worried that they'll be like, well, we actually would have liked for you to have taken the second test like 1 day later so tough luck!

Ugh, now my stomach is all upset thinking about that.

Rest easy Lennon! I dug out my nursing admissions requirements and it says "There must be at least 30 (thirty) days between test dates." I think having the magic "30" on your exam results is what you need!

Now you have one less thing to worry about .... :)

I am in Terre Haute. Please don't get so uptight...you will make it. Get uptight once you are in. Then you will have a reason to! Pharmacology is a bear. The testing now emulates NCLEX questioning...aka...more than one right answer. You pick the best. You can't miss clinical...or it's deducted from your grade. No matter if it's life or death. Theory tests are hard. They laugh at you and say for all of us anal retentives...forget the A's. You have to strive for B's and C's. That by the way was a quote. You see students drop by the wayside...either give up or failure. Save your anxiety. If you want it bad enough, you will get it. You do have to work for it!
