Waiting on Ivy Tech acceptance letters thread

Published

I thought it might be nice to have a place for us to vent our frustrations with waiting until May 30th or so when letters start going out. I know I'm going nuts already!

How about introductions and a little info about each person?

I'm applying to both Bloomington and Indy-Lawrence for the Fall 2009 ASN programs. I turned in my apps this week with 4 As on the pre-reqs and a 90.0 on the TEAS. My eventual goal is at least getting a BSN, and if I feel like doing homework long enough, an MSN of some sort. I work full time now, but will hopefully only work part time if I get accepted. I'm so antsy to start preparing and finally feel like all of this is real!

I took Med Term online in the fall. I do agree that it has helped me some in a&p.

lennon - is ANP201 as bad as some say? I signed up for it this summer, but I heard it is a bear of a class. I can't decide between that and chemistry. I still haven't taken the IVY1XX either. It's hard to justify the time and money when I've been successfully juggling school, work, and raising children for two years. Maybe we can clep out due to life experience?!!

csab - I had no desire to become a nurse either, despite everyone telling me that I should. I was in high school at the height of women's lib (remember the '70s, anyone?!) and I just didn't want to be identified in a "woman's job". I even refused to learn to type (something I regret now, but I'm getting pretty fast at hunting & pecking!). I had a career in the Air Force, then decided that I really do want to go into nursing!

cthomas - APHY201 is pretty rough. I don't think I'd be brave enough to take it during the summer, maybe if I didn't work though... I do think that it will be very helpful when we're in nursing school though. I'm certainly going to save all of my notes from class!

I'm going bonkers waiting for the letters to go out! This morning my mind was wandering at work and I was starting to plan what to wear for the first day of nursing school! Which, by the way, would be 18 weeks from TODAY! I think I need to be hauled off to the looney bin...

Okay, time to concentrate and get the rest of my Intro to Soc online class done all in one day :) Well, all except for the final paper, but still, a good accomplishment.

I don't know about for other campuses, but for the Lawrence campus you can do a class lookup on the registration thingy and see when all of the nursing classes are for Fall semester :)

FYI about looking up when Fall classes are at Lawrence. You will learn quickly that things change, so don't be planning out your schedule. The nursing department can put dates and times in there, but for clinicals, dates and times do change based on where and when they can get clinical sites. There are a lot of nursing schools here in Indianapolis wanting sites and Ivy Tech even competes with Purdue in Lafayette. They don't get confirmation until sometimes the week before the semester starts.

Oh yeah, I certainly wouldn't take any of those as set in stone times and days, not at all! I just like to be nosy :)

I honestly don't think APHY 201 is worse than 101 or 102...I personally think the pressure of getting an A in the first two taught me how to effciently study and this one really doesn't seem so bad. Of course you have to work though, it's harder than the average course!

I wonder if there is an online med term course somewhere? I'm taking Chem this summer but it sounds like it would be worth it to take med term, especially since I have no experience.

I think, for me, a big part of the problem that I have with APHY201 is that my section has all of the lecture and all of the lab in just one day a week. It's hard to learn and process that much information all at once (for me). I have an A in the class (well at least until they grade the 3rd exam that we took on Saturday!) so I'm doing very well compared to the rest of the class, but I don't know, I guess it just hasn't been as enjoyable as 101 and 102 were. Plus I've not worked as hard this semester since I'm so ready for a break right about now!

Yes there are online med term courses. HLHS 101. Mine last fall was online.

I definitely know what you mean about needing a break this semester, Lennon! I think I held my breath all of last semester. You do the Saturdays at Lawrence right? I would absolutely hate to have lecture after the test...ick. Having an A so far is AWESOME though, at least in my section there are maybe only 1 or 2 A's. This may sound contradictory after I said 201 wasn't horrible, but test 3 really did me in. I'm not sure I'll have an A now, unless the rest of my tests are perfect. The strange part is that I thought I did really well on it.

Mason - I won't even find out my score from test 3 until Saturday so I have all week to think about how poorly I probably did :( I studied and felt really good after doing the review questions in the blue book and then I got to the test and my mind went blank. If we end up being able to retake a test, it'll certainly be this one for me!

Oh and yeah, I'm in the Saturday group. It seems like my whole class is doing worse than the other sections so I wonder if it's because of having the whole thing all in one day. Maybe so?

Working full time, I really struggled with this very thing. My original plan was to take ANP201 only this summer, and Micro next summer. After listening to others and reading (here) I dropped ANP201, and registered for Micro & Chem101 (online) this summer. This will complete all my coreqs, and allow the option of summer nursing classes in 2010 (if offered), providing I'm accepted this fall. I still wonder, though, If I'm "missing anything" by not taking ANP201? Opinion anyone?
