Waiting on Ivy Tech acceptance letters thread

Published

I thought it might be nice to have a place for us to vent our frustrations with waiting until May 30th or so when letters start going out. I know I'm going nuts already!

How about introductions and a little info about each person?

I'm applying to both Bloomington and Indy-Lawrence for the Fall 2009 ASN programs. I turned in my apps this week with 4 As on the pre-reqs and a 90.0 on the TEAS. My eventual goal is at least getting a BSN, and if I feel like doing homework long enough, an MSN of some sort. I work full time now, but will hopefully only work part time if I get accepted. I'm so antsy to start preparing and finally feel like all of this is real!

Susan, from what I understand if you decided to continue your education and get a BSN you will need Chem for that degree. That is why I am going to take Chem instead of ANP201.

If you want to go on for a BSN you might have to take both 201 and Chem. Depends on the school of course, some require the 201 and some require chem, and some require both. Ball State's RN to BSN program only requires 6 cr of A&P and requires Chem; IUPUI's RN to BSN requires 10 cr of A&P but chem is an optional science/math cluster course. Not sure about other programs but that is what I've seen on their websites.

Here is Ball State's: http://www.bsu.edu/cast/nursing/article/0,1894,28349-4399-9571,00.html

Thanks sunshine, that is good info to know. I'm 45, and will be tickled pink with an ASN - no plans for a BSN here, other "stuff" on my bucket list! I have heard, though, that most BSNs require CHEM111 (I'm taking 101). Those of you who plan to go on, may want to double check your program requirements. ;)

I'm seriously leaning towards not taking ANP201, and taking chem instead, because I want to keep my stress level low this summer:uhoh21:. So difficult to think about the future repercussions of class choices when all I want to do is read my acceptance letter!. About 39 days of waiting left, trying to keep sane ....

I honestly don't think APHY 201 is worse than 101 or 102...I personally think the pressure of getting an A in the first two taught me how to effciently study and this one really doesn't seem so bad. Of course you have to work though, it's harder than the average course!

I wonder if there is an online med term course somewhere? I'm taking Chem this summer but it sounds like it would be worth it to take med term, especially since I have no experience.

There is online med term, I am taking it right now! It's super easy but I learned a lot. The only thing we have to go to campus for is the final exam. All other exams were online, open book, easy peasy!

Well, I'm a little late to the party but wanted to throw in my medical experience. I don't have medical experience but lots of behavioral health experience. I got a masters in social work in 2005 and am currently a licensed clinical social worker. Before our son was born, I did school-based therapy in Wayne township. Before that, I worked with Johnson County CPS with families involved with the legal system for abuse and neglect of children. I've also worked in residential treatment centers for children and at Wishard Center of Hope, the pediatric team there does medical examinations on children who've been sexually assaulted. Mostly I've always focused on working with children who've been traumatized by some form of abuse of neglect. I adore children and plan to expand on my experience by going into the pediatric specialty of nursing. I was once passionate about social work, but my career took a turn I wasn't planning. After our son was born, I didn't want him to go to day care as we'd originally planned, but we needed two incomes. I got a job (where I am now) at a psychiatric hospital on the overnight shift. I do mental health assessments on patients who come in and help determine what level of care they need. I see a LOT of addictions patients and a LOT of adults, neither of these were areas I was ever interested in. I don't mind working overnights but never wanted to work in this setting or with this particular patient populations. I've learned a LOT but I terribly miss working with children and families. My hope is that I will be able to use my clinical therapy skills with families experiencing health crises and grief, and that it will add to my nursing skills. I can't, can't, can't wait to get back to working with kids and am glad I've finally been brave enough to pursue a career in pediatric nursing-- I never thought I was "smart enough" to be a nurse but I'm determined to succeed!

Melissa,

I am so glad you dared to dream! YOU are incredibly bright and the Pediatric unit lucky enough to land you in 2011 will be incredibly blessed. You will do well in the program, and in life, because of your determination

but even more so because YOU IS SMART! :)

We really are a lot alike! I thought the same thing at age 19, and told my MA program chair that I "might go back someday"..... well, 26 years later, here I am! Hindsight is always 20/20!
