Waiting on Ivy Tech acceptance letters thread

Published

I thought it might be nice to have a place for us to vent our frustrations with waiting until May 30th or so when letters start going out. I know I'm going nuts already!

How about introductions and a little info about each person?

I'm applying to both Bloomington and Indy-Lawrence for the Fall 2009 ASN programs. I turned in my apps this week with 4 As on the pre-reqs and a 90.0 on the TEAS. My eventual goal is at least getting a BSN, and if I feel like doing homework long enough, an MSN of some sort. I work full time now, but will hopefully only work part time if I get accepted. I'm so antsy to start preparing and finally feel like all of this is real!

yeh i hope i were there cos registration is still ongoing not to think of letters

Well then I'm OCD too, I have already attended two Indy info sessions and I might attend a third next week since I hear they are having summer nursing classes now so I want to hear more about that. I just won't sign in for the third session LOL.

LMAO I went to two as well, just in case they lost my sign in card from one, so I'd have a back up :) I think our OCD symptoms will just make us GREAT nurses!!

Thanks everyone for all the updates, sorry I've been a bit MIA lately. I love the info about the summer classes, that's what I'm banking on to get through the program ASAP. Assuming I get in in the first place, that is!! Also, looks like a lot of us are taking Chem online together this summer, which should be fun!

I was thinking about summer classes and I wonder how they will do it for those of you who WILL start in the fall, since you will only have one summer in between as opposed to Jan. start that gets two summers in between. I guess you will all find out at orientation that you all WILL be attending! :yeah:

Momma Sue and Momma C, that's who we'll be! Coupla old grannies! :p I talked to my instructor today (she's actually a professor, I should address her as such!), she does teach Mon/Wed in the summer - yay, you have her! I won't be at class next Monday, maybe we can hook up the next Monday. I almost threw away all my notes last week, glad I didn't!

You're right Melissa2012 - the best nurses are OCD - we're gonna be awesome! (thinking positive here!). How many of us are doing SB on-line chemistry? Glad we are, I know I'll need help because chemistry bores me to tears. :sniff:

csab, I hope they will let the Fall start students do summer classes, I'd like to graduate early And remember - you'll be at orientation with us!

cthomas, well I sure do wish I would be there with you guys, but I can't apply until Sept. for the Jan. start. I am taking a&p 101 right now and will take 102 over the summer.

Hello everyone! I am now in the waiting game phase too!

I read this thread and wanted to share something I read here at allnurses.com that was posted by a Nurse. The comment was made about the instructors at IvyTech for clinicals and how they are (out to get)--I think was the comment, or if they are not interested in helping other students why are they teaching?? This is what she said: Clinicals are like bootcamp and the instructors are preparing you for the culture you are now entering in the medical field. Orders and procedures that need to be followed-if not it could be a matter of life. She also stated that an instructor does not want one of her/his student's out there not following procedure and getting hurt or hurting someone. I understand what she meant, I hope I got the message across in that single statement. The instructors are not only teaching you procedures; it's a way of thinking and handling your job, someone's life, and even protecting your well being while you venture into this new career.

Wouldn't you wonder...where did this nurse go to school, she/he is giving me a shot and not wearing gloves?

I hope I did this justice and you understand and find (some) comfort...:) when clinicals are getting crazy in your head. this is what I hope to fall back on...when I get in, it may not be this time around, but I will keep trying.

45 days until letters go out!

I'm hoping that I'll be at the Bloomington campus in the fall, but the idea of taking a summer semester and graduating faster by going to the Lawrence campus sounds very tempting too. Plus it'd be awesome to have classes with some of you! I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens with my husband after he graduates next month. If he gets a grown up job in Indy, we'll move up there and I'll take that program. If he doesn't and has to keep his retail job and just do freelancing, then we'll stay down here. This is of course if I get accepted.

I'm going to try really hard to get in shape this summer so that if I'm accepted, I won't be dying after like 20 minutes of running around at clinicals. Having a sit down and never get to move around job has taken a toll on me. Anyone else interested in trying to get in shape with me this summer? :)

cthomas - provided I get in, I'll be thrilled to have company in my age bracket! I'm excited to meet you and it will be nice to put a face with messages. Monday the 27th works for me, just name the time and place that works best for you. I'll be in ANP102 Open Labs from 3:30-9:00pm(ish). Thanks so much for sharing info about your Micro prof! I'm SO excited about having a good one, and even more excited that you're willing to share your notes, etc.

Kudos to Melissa2012, too! She encouraged me to do the online SB chem class! I've emailed him and he seems very nice, too! Here's to a good summer, as we all continue to wait......!

Lennonninja- I'll accept your challenge to get into better shape over the summer. I'm on WW, but having a hard disciplining myself to exercise. As a sidenote, I found out last week that I was matched as a bone marrow donor off the national registry, had my physical today, and will be donating stem cells this summer. Yet another reason to kick my behind into gear and get healthier! Healthy nurses are much more effective when they practice what they preach, right?

Girlfriend, YOU are SO in! I just KNOW it! Online Chem will be fun - sure ya don't wanna join me in Micro? I know it's 2 nights/week, but cthomas says the prof is a good one! I think we DESERVE that, don't you?! LOL! :icon_hug:

I think we will all do just great in all our summer classes. Looking forward to the end of spring classes! Plan to use the time between spring and summer semesters to get as organized as humanly possible while I have a little free time. I got an iPhone because I wanted a PDA for nursing school, but until the break I won't have time to learn how to use it. There are a lot of great medical resources available and so many of them are free. Anyone else already using an iPhone or PDA?
