Wages - we are underpaid

Wow! I want to work in W. Va. or Ma.! W. Va, how do they cover emergencies from 7P-7A? I have 10 years Endo/OR/SDSU/PACU experience, and 5 years ICU experience prior. I make 25.33/hr with time and a half for call backs. I get 1.25 to carry the beeper. We take call every 6 or 7 days and every 6th or 7th weekend.

I work in Canada. We are unionized. The first year, we are paid a basic rate of $21. Each year after that, our pay increases according the pay scale set by the union.

Im a traveler but I will configure it on my last pay scale.300 bed 17 room OR

CVOR, Vascular services. 28.75 hr , 14.50 for call time and a half for on call.

Out of the 13 weeks I was there I was on call 12 weeks 3 days a week.No weekends.

That was a hospital In Nebraska.

Im 5 yrs in Or 9 yrs as a Nurse. CVICU,ICU,Step down, Telem, Med Surg.

Im also a RNFA which I didnt use there.

Always in Northern California, ever since I became an OR nurse in 1981, we made half-time for standby (that is, half our hourly wage per hour.) I

f we got called in, it was time and a half, with a 3 or 4 hour minimum. Even if we got there, and the case was cancelled, we got our 3 or 4 hour minimum.

Holidays, 3/4 time for standby, double time for call in.

It's still that way, wherever I have worked in Northern California.

In Oregon it is much, much less. That's why, when I work O.R., I do it as a travel assignment in Northern CA; however, even though the pay is good, I don't take call. I did my years. Now a million dollars an hour for call wouldn't be enough. I would rather sleep.

Hourly wages vary. In Northern CA, in 2001, the staff per diems were making around $50.00 an hour. As a traveler at that facility, I made only $29 an hour, BUT I got a $3,000 per month tax-free housing allowance, so it all worked out.

I think the benefited staff made around $33-$36 per hour. I am sure they make more now.

stevierae, I think I might take a million for call! Right now I am in my second straight week of work with call every night and this weekend and last! I am tired and want to go home really bad, but I do have the week off during Memorial. In 2 weeks I have probably put in 50 hours or more in OT so a million per would be just fine. Mike

George, I work in a small (86 Bed) community hospital, urban/suburban, 9 yrs of experience, 9 mos in PACU. My base rate is 28.27/h, 4.00 more after 1500. on call pay is 6.00 for carrying the beeper and time and a half for call back, with a 2 h minimum guaranteed. I can honestly say that this is the nicest job I've ever had.:)

Always looking for qualified help here in Ma.
Right now we have a 3-11 PM staff of 2 Mon - Thurs.; our emergancies, 3-11 Friday and 11-7 Mon-Fri are covered w/ call. On weekends we work 7-3 PM and cover the other 16 hrs w/ call (staff of 2). Our call pay is very generous, w/ minimun 2 hr. @ time and one half for callbacks. We cover one weekend day every 6 weeks or so.

I work in a 24 bed rural hospital and a 3 room OR suite. The OR nurses currently get paid 40 cents less per hour as the floor and Er nurses. ( whats wrong with that picture i say . )..... I have been employed here since 1986......and have been an RN for 11 years...... I make $23.68/hr. with $2 for call, time and a half for call in, $1.25 for evening hours and $4 an hour for night work...............not bad......:

I work at a 100 bed rural hospital in PACU. I also work the Med Surg units. Base pay for a graduate RN is 17.50 per hour. Base pay for a graduate RN who will be a Charge Nurse is 19.03. I am currently the Asst Nurse Manager of PACU, have been at the hospital all 8 of my years in nursing and make 23.12 (effective this payday because of promotion), but was making 21.35. We get a 1.25 per hour to carry a beeper when on call, we get time and a half when called in but lose the 1.25 pay.
