Wages for Tripler in Hawaii

Hello Fellow Nurses! Am looking for someone who has completed/is currently on assignment at Tripler. Was considering working in the ICU until my recruiter told me they paid $17/hr. She told me that Tripler pays less than other hospitals but this seems quite low. I have 7 years ICU experience. I really don't understand why the wage is so low since they don't offer anything extra...ie no rental car reimbursement. Any advice, recommendations would greatly be appreciated. Thanks!!

Try a google search for Hospital Support.

$ 17.00 an hour is way too low. I have heard Hawaii is low because of of COLA (cost of living allowance) but it is more like $27.00.

Good luck to you and let us know how you make out.

I was quoted a similar hourly wage for Tripler, which is why I am currently in New Mexico instead. I was quite disappointed as my son is stationed there and I would have loved to have spent some time where I could visit with my d-i-l and him. I would have taken a lower wage to do so, but not THAT low. If they are unable to fill the positions at that rate, eventually they may need to rethink this.

I've heard you need to travel with the Hawaiian companies, not US ones.

Hey guys,

I am too also interested in going to hawaii. During my search I was quoted 25$$$ for a peds position at Tripler through an agency. So yours seems very very low!!!!

Thanks so much for your replies!!! I've put Hawaii on the side lines for now...it just appeared to be more trouble than it was worth.

It comes down to the agency in many cases...........and you will find significant differences in pay depending on the agency.

Hawaii is known for paying less than other states for travel assignments, first because you have to fly there, you cannot drive, etc. And many want to go there for the beaches and scenery, and just consider it travel with some work included to cover their expenses.

I also just declined an assignment in Hawaii, as the pay was very low.

A tech friend of mine also turned one down. The agency said they could not provide a rental car. The told him to take public transportation to work-

Uh, the shift starts @ 0430. no buses running then!
