Volunteering at a school?!?!?

So I was talking to a few fellow students who are about to embark on their journey into the nursing program at Madonna Univ. Anyway, they told me that the school wants their first year nursing students to volunteer at a school in Detroit. I am very confused and slightly angry about this.What does this have to do with nursing? Also I will already be overwhelmed as is with the classes I will be taking. Does anyone know about this? Did anyone have to do it?

    Don't get worked up until you hear it from the horse's mouth. Shoot an email to your nursing department if you really want to know for sure, or wait until they bring it up in class. People say all sorts of stuff, and only some of it is true.
