Hey all!
Have any of you heard about vitamin infusions? I've seen some classes (not many) offered on a start up business doing infusions via IV. Different vitamins for different thing (i.e. beauty, weight loss, fatigue, hang over). I would love to hear some input if any of you know anything about it.
Thanks!

I'm "only" an ADN nurse. So maybe it's above my level of education.
I'd love to read some independent research on the need or efficacy of IV vitamin infusions.
Especially ones for beauty!

Short answer, which is no.

Lef.org may have some info on these, however it is strictly alternative outside a rare, severe vitamin deficiency scenario or long term ETOH.

You could check out the Institute of Functional Medicine website, or try to talk to someone who works in a Functional Medicine practice.

Ehhhh, keep in mind this is practicing outside of evidence based medicine. Beside thiamine for EtOH, or Vit C for sepsis, etc, there is no research or evidence to suggest this is beneficial, or not harmful, for patients.
Gosh darn it....I've been anxiously awaiting the vitamin infusion that will make me beautiful. I even have pictures picked out of beautiful women I want to look like.

Here in Alabama, we have at least one or two in every big town. They are cash only. They even go and set up at Tennis Tournaments. This business also does the whole facial, botox, eyebrow/eyelash stuff. They have a compounding pharmacy, Urgent Care and Wellness clinic that does hormone replacement and weight loss. They have a few CRNPs, and one doctor supervising.

The above is amusing...Ok let's go to the tennis tournament and get a facial with botox. Throw in an IV on the side.?
I find the concept a bit much too - but the business is making tons of money!! I feel bad = I need IV fluids. It is much cheaper than my ER copay ?

To be honest, I find the whole thing a bit sketchy. But, if I had a bad GI bug to the point I was thinking about needing some fluids, my local IV therapy shop will come to my house and give me a liter of LR with some zofran for less than an ER visit, and without having to drive anywhere. I might not work for them but I hope they stay around.
