When screening, I always ask the kids how long they have had their glasses and when they got the pair they are currently wearing. I am wondering what you all do when you have a student that says he/she just got the glasses but they fail the exam? Example: I screened a little girl today, she failed the test and stated she just got this new Rx 2 weeks ago.

I would call the mom to verify the date of the exam and prescription, and that the student is wearing the correct glasses.

I usually don't talk about the glasses. If they fail the screening, I'l ask them how long they've had that prescription but that really isn't relevant in regard to a referral for further eval. When I call the parent to let them know I'm sending a vision referral I'll chat about all that stuff.

If a student has new glasses I don't screen. They are already under a doctor's care.

I don't ask about their glasses. I report my findings. If mom calls me & says little darling just got those glasses, I would tell her to call her provider.
If vision and hearing are checked out by the PMD I don't screen unless a teacher tells me that LD may not be able to see the board.

If they fail a screening with glasses on, first I make sure they are glasses for near sightedness. I have had students confused on when they should be wearing glasses. If they tell me they just got the glasses a week or even a month ago, I wait a week and rescue end them. If they still fail, I contact the parent and refer them.

I just refer them like normal.
If they fail they get a note home.
