Vision and hearing middle school

I am only permitted to pull them from phys ed class. I just plug along. It takes all year.

How do you guys do your vision and hearing for middle school? This is my first year I was going do 1 and 3 hour core classes and knock them out but I got a lot teachers upset and got a call that I needed to talk to 7 th grade lead teacher so she came to my office and said in past they did science classes problem was I only had spot screener for 2 days these sciences classes were 5,6.8,9 hours I had a lot of wasted time in between I would go back to my office to wait and get stuck with health room traffic it was horrible!! I have hearing to do and I would like practical advice!

You may want to get administration involved. In my experience, some staff don't realize that vision/hearing is a state requirement and only see it as an inconvenience. I had a teacher once flat out refuse to send me any students. I don't imagine she would refuse to send a student who had to do make up testing for a state test.

I set a day, get a sub for the clinic and pull my 7th graders out of Social Studies. I warn the teachers well in advance of screening date. Thankfully, I only have to do vision screening on my 7th graders. For my students new to the district I do both hearing and vision. I make a spreadsheet and try to do a few every day. I generally pull them out of art, chorus or study hall. It has worked well for me!

I pull my kids from library (its right across the hall) and the older ones from Study Hall. It takes a few months, but I get them done.

I am supposed to pull students from PE. I have to test all of my fifth-graders (about 400), and all of my sixth-graders who are new to the district. It seems to drag on forever, especially with the policy that I have to screen them for hearing twice before I can refer them. I started September 12th, and I still have 28 to do initial screening on, and 32 to repeat hearing. I can't wait to be done, because I have to start working on sixth-grade vaccine letters in November.

I only pull from non-core classes. And luckily we don't do mass screenings at my middle school. It's recommended but not required in my state so we focus on the littles in elementary school.
