Visa Screen Certificate / CGFNS

World Registration

Published

Visa Screen Certificate is required by all foreign nurses wishing to obtain a green card to work in the US, as well as any type of temporary work permit, such as the Nafta TN Visa for those from Canada and Mexico.

It requires that you pass either the NCLEX-RN or the CGFNS exam, as well as the series of English exams if you are not exempt from them.

The CGFNS exam is only required now in about five states, and rumor is that one or two will be removed from that remaining list as well. Do not bother with that exam if you are not going to work in a state that does not require it, or you have no way to be able to take the NCLEX exam from where you are currently located.

The application for the VSC is now only good for one year.........please do not apply for it until you have passed at least one of the required exams, or you may need to pay an additional fee.

If it is asking for ID number and you don't have it then leave blank, can always put a covering note explaining

Hi silverdragon! I know what u mean but im talking about the order number.. First there's a blank for cgfns number then another blank for the order number.. I know i dont need to put anything on the cgfns number.. I was trying to apply online first and i saw that there's an order number automatically, but i decided to do paper application.. So now its getting me confused on what to put as order number for my paper application?... I hope u can understand what i mean.. Thank u very much..

Does anyone know how long it usually takes for a certificate to be issued once all documents are received? I have a potential job offer with a start date of Feb. 20th and my documents were received at the end of Dec. I was told that I could expedite for an extra $500, but they wouldn't give me anymore information about it unless I told them I wanted expedited services for sure. So what I'm trying to get at is, do you think I will have my certificate issued in time or should I go ahead and pay to get the expedited services? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

suzanne4 are u still using this site?

i just hope anyone would answer my question....I passed the NCLEX and now it will be expiring few months from now... I just need my SSS number to finally complete the process.. but the problem is i still don't have 1 (was waiting for my petition from my mom-im on the final process now the interview but i don't know when will it be, been waiting like forever, was misinformed by my sister that it will be soon and all-(the lawyer told her that its just few months after completing the requirements we will be scheduled for the interview)....that's why i never process the VSC. now i'm so scared that my NCLEX will expired... i don't know what can i do to at least extend my NCLEX.. i'm not really up to going to US now i just don't want my Nclex to expire.....

I know I'm so stupid to wait for the interview... Now, I'm trying to figure out if i can do something bout this...

Thanks...

Suggest you either contact the state and see what is required to keep your NCLEX results active or look at applying to another state, meeting their requirements and arranging for your NCLEX results to be forwarded to new state

Work visa or immigrant visa?

Work visa will depend on how the H1b visas are going and if all gone your employer cannot file until April with Oct start unless the employer isn't capped and not many hospitals have that option. Immigrant visa then you are looking at 6+ years wait currently and no you can not work whilst waiting for the immigrant visa is processed

thank you for the response.. but what do you mean with "unless the employer isn't capped"? thank you
