I have shadowing experience but only because I heard from others that they obtained it. I really would not think it is that important at all. I heard they used “point system” and give certain number of points for each achievement like GPA, CCRN, references, leadership, etc.

I was waitlisted at KUMC last year (only school I applied to that cycle). They used a point system and after the interview they gave a complete breakdown of how many points we got. I was told that the CCRN was enough points that had I had it at the time I likely would have been accepted rather than waitlisted. Made sure to get the CCRN this time around!

The interview process there (I know it may be very different at each school, but for what it's worth...) was very friendly. These days I expect it to be that way, as stress interviews have been phased out of most programs in the medical field in recent years.

I was thrilled they took the GRE off of this cycle. Unfortunately I'm still studying for it since some of my other choices require it... yuck. Good luck everyone!

Thanks for all the info! I have heard that VCU “likes” to waitlist. So how does waitlist work? Are we guaranteed the spot for the next cycle if we are waitlisted or do we need to go through the whole application process again?

I imagine you would have to reapply, that’s how it was for KU. I haven’t seen any specific info from VCU about that, though I’d be very surprised if they didn’t make you apply all over again. To be sure you’d have to talk to someone who’s been thru it with VCU or talk to the admissions folks directly. At my interview at KU they talked in DETAIL about the acceptance/waitlist/rejection cycle and timeline. Hopefully it’ll be the same here!
(sorry I keep bringing up KU it’s just the only experience I have on this front LOL)

Any ideas on when we should hear back for interviews?

Hi everyone! I just received an email from VCU that the volume of applicants is very high this year and they need more time to review every application and make a decision. My anxiety is even higher now! LOL Did anyone else receive such email?

I'm glad they got my interview too. And yes, the number of applicants stresses me out even more too. It also says we won't even know if we got an interview until may? so much waiting!

Definitely a relief knowing that they have my application but the wait until May …?

I am curious how virtual interviews will be conducted. I was told that in-person interviews have you to do a written test first. Will they administer a test virtually as well? ?

Seeing VCU's email pop up in my inbox made my heart drop. LOL. I wish I had a clue what the large volume of applicants looks like in comparison to past years... crazy! Anxiety is setting in!
