Hi,

I'm confused about taking the cgfns or nclex examination, following my friend's advise i'm going to start the process in order to take the cgfns exam here in my country(Peru) on november, but now i frequently read about cgfns is not really necessary. I know it depends of the country you are thinking to work in, in my case the states where i could work are Arizona, North Caroline, Illinois, Colorado (places where i have friends). The question is what could you really advise me, it is better to choose a state that not ask for the cgfns? or should i take both examinations?. I would really appreciate your help.

I'm not too familiar with the cgfns exam. What I do know is if you decide to work here in the U.S.A. you need to take the NCLEX. That's what I think. Don't hold me accountable if I'm wrong.

Now in answer to your questions, unless you are wanting to go to Illinois or Michigan right away, I would skip the CGFNS exam. I would highly recommend getting licensed in NY as your initial state. They will actually issue you a nursing license without having a Social Security Number, then you can endorse to almost any other state without having to take CGFNS exam. Some of the states just want a Credentials Verification from CGFNs.

I would definitely stay away from the exam.

Simple example: if you apply today to NY for licensure, three applications only need to be submitted, the special Credentials verfication for NY, Visa Screen, and NY application for licensure. It takes on average about 4 months

to receive your ATT letter giving you permission to sit for NCLEX exam.

Complete your English exams during that time, and four months after your last exam is completed, you should be able to have your Visa Screen Certificate in hand. If you chose to work initially on the east coast where petitions for green cards are processed very quickly out of Vermont, you could easily be in the US within one year.

The choice is yours....................... :balloons:

Thanks for your answers, i will considere your advises, and i am sure i will have more questios for you soon. Best regards. N.

Hi, I am a peruvian nurse like you, and also I'm trying this process of getting the green card. Now I am a CGFNS certificate holder, but still I need to pass the IELTS to have the Visa screen. But I would like to know more about you, did you get your green card, did you get the sponsor? Please your answers are important for me. You know, we are from the same country and it would be a pleasure to share experiences about this process... BYE :nurse:
