During change of shift, Per our policy myself and the oncoming day shift nurse were checking duragesic patch placement on our residents. we entered resident A's room and she proceeded to look for resident a's patch. I had just seen it earlier on in the shift when i counted off with the 3-11 shift nurse. I reached down to help her look for the patch, and her face got red and she grabbed my arm really hard, dug her nails in and pushed my arm away from the resident, and stated "why do you always have to be so uptight?!?!" I almost started to cry, and was really embarrassed by the whole incident. Do you think that I'm reading too much into this?
Update:I reported the situation to my immediate supervisor, and as far as I can tell, the facility will take NO action against her. The supervisor just told me to document the occurance, and anything else she does out of line so that they could build a basis to have her let go. The nail marks were superficial, were gone within a couple hours of the incident, and it was her word against mine. they are looking to fire her, but because it's now a case of her word against mine, there is nothing they could do. I do, however, have someone come into a room with us while we check patches and she has no longer put her hands on my since.
Good for you for reporting the situation. I'm proud of you! It has to start somewhere and I know it isn't easy, but it could be enough to make her think twice before she continues with her abusive behaviors. Be sure to keep a journal of everything she does/says to you that is inappropriate (but don't mention it to anyone...yet). For all you know, other Nurses are also having problems with her and recording the same behaviors..
We use to count patches at shift change when I worked in LTC. There were just way too many patches reported missing.
I'm sorry that happened to you. That was so uncalled for and very unprofessional! You did the right thing by reporting her. What a heifer!!! Like others stated, I sure hope she does not do this to her patients! You shouldn't feel embarrassed. If anything, she should embarrassed.
LOL 2BSure! I'm from Texas! Sure would be nice to get a 1 time chance to kick some butt to someone that truly deserves it.:trout:

Oh believe me, my first knee jerk reaction was to grab her by her perfectly sculpted french twist and yank, it took all my self control not to . I don't do well with fully functional adults putting thier hands on me. I can handle being whaled on by a dementia resident without getting angry (i know that they can't help it.) however it would have only escalated the situation, and I was trying to protect the resident from being harmed, should she decide to hurt the resident and blame it on me. this woman is extremely volitile and has a vicious revenge seeking streak that knows no end.

Wouldn't it be nice if just once and a while we could take the gloves off and kick someone's butt Texas style (I worked with a Texan once and she did not take any of this sort of crap lying down -- I just loved her).
