VCU's accelerated program 2015

Published

Hi all!

I'ved applied to VCU's 2015 accelerated BS program and now am waiting for January to come...3 months is going to go by too slowly but I'm so excited too!

I'm reaching out to any current applicants to learn about you and your background...please share! :) I'm currently an Athletic Trainer and have been working in this field for the past 11 years but have decided to take a turn in my career and become a nurse! I'm hoping my experiences will be in my favor.

Also reaching out to previous & current students to ask you your tips for success in the program. Please share anything that works for you!

Congratulations to every one who was accepted! I've been stalking this forum for a long time, and although I am not applying this year I am curious to learn about the application process. Can some people tell me there GPA. I'm applying next year but my GPA is a 3.2. Anybody get accepted that had a kind of low GPA?

WOW @alliegem - so glad you told me to look at this thread! Thanks so much for all the helpful information!

How is anyone getting any work done for their current classes with all of this exciting stuff?!

Has anyone made a Facebook group yet? If not, I can!

@cvillefredrva8 First off no I have not done any work except volunteering for my required hours, as for opening books and doing homework….not so much!!! Second, I don't think there is a group, you should make one! Has anyone put in their deposit yet or going to meet with the advisor??

Okay guys, the facebook group is called "VCU Accelerated BSN Program Class of 2016." I made it closed so that only group members can see our posts. Request to join and I'll add ya! :-)

@rbbeattie - I think this is the page you're looking for :)

SCI Minimum Computer Requirements

Even though those are the "requirements," there are plenty of people that have laptops more than 2 years old. They don't have a preference if you use mac or pc... they even have a couple of macs in the computer lab on the 2nd floor :)

@kiekie - In my cohort, the admitting GPA ranges from 2.95 to 4.0, so it's possible!

Also, when you guys meet with the advisor, you may also be meeting myself or one of 6 other student ambassadors. We are supposedly giving you guys a tour and answering questions after you meet with LaToya, I think. :)

Hi Alliegm:

I've totally been stalking this thread and haven't commented yet, but have read everything. I'm currently wait listed and I'm ranked at #19 :( I've been googling about what to do if you're wait listed at nursing schools, and I know you mentioned earlier that you were wait listed (although you had a much lower number, #3, right?) Anyways, as you can probably tell I've been kind of obsessing about this... I was wondering, when you were wait listed did you just wait to hear back patiently or did you email the program once in a while to let them know you were still interested. I'm looking online and some people are saying that you should do "extra things" like send them things to help beef up your application etc. But, I'm assuming that since this is a ranked system they just move up the list, accepting #1, then #2 etc., right? So, sending them an email once in a while and reminding them that you're still interested in the program won't help you and will probably just make you annoying, right? Not "you," obviously. Just a general "you."

I've really enjoyed reading everyone's comments. And you've been such a wonderful help!

I have been accepted as well! I'm excited, VCU is my second choice (GMU being my first... but I probably won't find out if I have been accepted until after I sign up for VCU classes, soo....). My complication is that I currently live in Inner Mongolia, China. I think that I can manage the medical documents needed at an international hospital in Beijing, but I cannot realistically physically meet with Latoya. Is this going to be okay? I'm sending an e-mail now. Ah, the joys of living overseas!

Hey @wrtrldy!

I agree with your final thoughts. I don't believe that e-mailing or sending in extra things to admissions will change your ranking. In fact, I'm fairly certain it wont. I think you'll just move up the ranks as people defer their admission. Trust me - I know what you're going through. I'm hopeful that you'll get pulled off the wait list :)

Hey alliegm, thanks for all your insight. I was wondering if you know how long the summer session is. Is there a break in b/w summer and fall semesters?

Hey ekoar!

I don't recall how many weeks the summer is (8 or 9?)... but I can tell you that last summer I had a full month off before fall classes started. We were off from July 22 - August 21, or something like that. Your second summer in the program only has three weeks break.

Between fall and spring semester, there's about one month off, depending on when your exams end.

Between spring and summer... only one short week :(

Hi alligem- just wondering if you have heard when admissions will be notifying the first round of waitlisters? This wait is definitely more painful than the first time around as I am so close! I am assuming around 2/20 which I believe was the given deadline to secure a spot?

Hey @nfc,

I'm sorry to say I haven't heard anything about when the next notification will be. I know that I received my "pulled off the waitlist email" February 18, last year, and I was in the first batch of students pulled. Hopefully within the next week they will begin to accept more students. Fingers crossed for you!

Allie
