Hi Everyone!
I am posting this thread so everyone can share their thoughts and feelings about the current Fall 2023 admission cycle for VCU's FNP program! Also, feel free to post if you applied to the psych or acute geri programs as well. I wanted to post my stats and get a gauge of everyone else's while we wait for December 15th!!
I have 3 degrees: A BS in Biology, an ADN in Nursing, and an RN-BSN in Nursing!
Overall cumulative GPA of 3.25 and an overall nursing GPA of 3.65. I am a bit concerned with my overall but would like to note that my initial bachelor's degree was obtained in 2014.
I made sure to edit, re-edit, and edit some more my personal statements, and I made sure that my 3 reference choices were solid.
I have 3+ years at the bedside with most of my experience in acute inpatient care specializing in orthopedic surgery/trauma.
Look forward to hearing back from everyone, and fingers crossed!

Hello and welcome @Brian-BSN-RN
We have moved your topic to the Student Nurse Practitioner forum, where it is better suited.
Good luck in your NP Program and we hope you enjoy allnurses.

Hi! I'm a current FNP-DNP student at VCU preparing to enter my second semester. I've enjoyed the program so far and found the professors to be responsive and engaging.
Did you apply for the MSN or DNP?
Good luck!
Hello,
I did not clarify that, but I applied to the MSN program and was admitted! I start classes this Fall, I am very excited.
Congratulations!! It's a great program.
The profs have all been great. I'm excited about the prospect of doing clinical placement in pods. There are only so many slots, but it's a unique opportunity to rotate with classmates.
Thank you! Also, I will be completing the program as a full-time student.
For clarification, you complete most clinical placements in groups instead of completing hours at a facility as an individual student?
The pods are optional and sought after this year. They still do solo placements, and some students even find their own, especially if they live at a distance.
If you look at VCU SON on YouTube, there is a post about the Dyad model from last fall that discusses pods more in-depth. It's a bit long but has several clinical instructors and professors discussing the model.
Thank you for the information, very valuable. I honestly would not mind completing clinicals as a group, and am again very excited to begin the program!
@BluebellRN What is the grading scale for the program? Is an 80 considered a B- or B, thanks!
I think I'd enjoy the pods, but we'll see if I can get into one. I think it's a neat concept, plus I want to be with (MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME), she's very dynamic and works in endocrinology which I enjoy.
The grading system is just 100-90= A, 89-80= B. No minus on the grading. And I believe they do round up the final grade if you are on the cusp (89.8 will round to a 90, or an A).

@Cindy123 That is exciting, congrats! When do you hear back and what is your current master's degree concentration?
