VCU ABSN Summer 2018

Hey guys!

I just started a thread for UVA's CNL Summer 2018, but I'm also applying to VCU's ABSN program for Summer 2018. If anyone out there is doing the same, or just applying to VCU, I'd love to hear from you! :)

Hello!

So glad I came across this post! I recently applied to the Accelerated program at VCU, 12/15 can't come soon enough. I graduated with a degree in social work from George Mason University last summer, and after a semester of grad school at VCU I decided nursing would be a much better fit for me. My cumulative GPA is a 3.85, and I feel that my references and essays are pretty strong, but I am a little worried about my experiences in the medical field...of which I have none! I graduated with a Masters in Social Work myself in 2014 from VCU. I am now also pursuing the accelerated nursing program! What lead you to nursing after obtaining a degree in Social Work?

Hello MSW2Nurse! That's awesome, it's nice to have another person with a social work background! I decided to go into nursing because it just seemed like a much better fit for me. I definitely want to stay in a helping profession, but I really like the structure and pace that comes along with nursing. I started the MSW program knowing that my heart wasn't totally in social work, but was not aware of second degree nursing programs and figured getting my MSW after I graduated was the next logical step. I am super glad I found about this program! How about you?

djohnst430 that's understandable! I chose nursing because I would like to become a psychiatric nurse. I feel that would allow me to still utilize my social work skills and to help my patients in a more holistic way. Hopefully we both get in!

I'm getting my MPH and hoping to combine my public health background with a nursing degree! Not really a career change but more of a combination of the best of both worlds (public health and nursing)! I hope we hear back soon from VCU!

Soooo sorry my email didn't notify me of recent activity.... wow all of a sudden people are getting busy on here! I applied for the ABSN. Some key words to search for would be "medical assistant", "medical tech" and any specific office you may have interest in. For example in my area there are A LOT of openings for oral surgery offices. Food for thought.
