VCU ABSN Summer 2014 Hopefuls!

U.S.A. Virginia

Hey everyone!

I'm semi new to this site and was curious if there is anyone else out there in the application process for VCU's accelerated BSN program to start in May 2014. I've started my application, but haven't turned it in, yet. This is the only program I want to go to! I don't know if I can wait until the end of January to get a decision!!!!

I finished my degree in Biology in May 2011 and I've been working in NOVA at a fast paced medical office ever since. Also, I've taken all of my pre-reqs except for A&P I and II (starting A&P I in a few weeks), but just a bit concerned about my grades/GPA from undergrad. I meet all of the requirements thus far, but not sure if it will be enough. Anyone else having similar concerns?

Also, would love to hear from any current VCU ABSN students - what were your stats like when applying, how do you like the program, etc.

Anyone else compulsively checking their email? I'm freaking out!

SO MUCH! And everytime I get an e-mail about a reply to this thread I have a mini freak-out session because it has VCU in the title. Sigh.

@Steph - I agree that nursing would be a good career if you move around a lot with your husband. The only thing I would say is that a you can only travel to certain states with your RN license unless you want to take the NCLEX again (I think)... my mom used to be a traveling nurse from NC and she could go to maybe 5 other states.

@Shani - Thanks for joining in! I just looked at my VCU application and the status still says Complete & Ready for Review. My last name starts with "M".. maybe they are going alphabetically? Unless your last name doesn't begin with the first half of the alphabet. Then I have no idea. I'm still hoping it means they're closer to a decision.

In all seriousness, a three month waiting period is so long! I have a friend that was accepted to George Washington and she found out 3 weeks after she submitted her application. NO FAIR!

My application says the same thing. I checked yesterday and it said "complete and ready for review," but now it is blank. Maybe that means decisions will come out soon!

@Allie my last name starts with a W so maybe they are going Z -> A?

ok so I'm also just joining/deciding to post but I've been stalking this site for a while, and yes my application also no longer says complete and ready for review. I'm soooooo nervous! I too am compulsively checking my e-mail and the website, and yes, I have had dreams both about getting in and getting denied lol so I hoped it's the first one! I went to VCU for my BS in exercise science, thought I wanted to do athletic training, then decided that wouldn't challenge me for an entire lifetime. So I decided to apply to the ABSN program with the intention of becoming an NP soon after. Fingers crosssssssed it works out I'm so sick of waiting! Good luck everyone!! I'll keep you all posted if I hear anything, hope to meet you soon as classmates!!!

Mine is blank too. I suppose it has begun. I still don't want to receive an e-mail early because I fear it may be a rejection, but whatever happens, happens. I mean, there are 90 seats and about 500 applicants. ;-; I don't think I've ever done something so competitive in my life... Haha.

Hi Alliegem,

You shouldn't have to retake the NCLEX to move to other states; the NCLEX is a national exam, accepted by all 50 states and several territories. I would probably have to apply for licensure in the state I was moving to, but that's just to make sure I'm on that Board of Nursing's radar. Your mom's state probably had compacts with the other states she was traveling to, so that she could practice there without having to apply in each state (or, maybe she actually did apply for licensure in each of those states, so that she could practice there without trouble).

There are some instances where I believe you would have to retake the NCLEX, though, such as if you don't complete your CEUs, don't practice for a certain amount of time, or if you are disciplined and ordered to retake it, things like that.

And I know what you mean about the waiting period - that's one of the things I liked about UVa, they get decisions out for their Direct Entry Masters within a month. That would be nice!

Steph

I looked at the ABSN forum from 2013 and they received admissions decisions on the 22nd. Since they received their decisions early, I am going to venture to say we will/could receive our decisions any day/time now.

I think their decision date was stated on the nursing website as "end of January/start of February" though. :o Also, what's your FB so we can be friends? (Since I know you in real life lol)

You can look my up by my email: [email protected]

I know the website says Jan 31st, but if they were early in the past I'm hopeful they'll be early now.

Hmm.... I think I confused you with someone else. xD

I think the person I meant to ask for was phish.... I fail.

@ Wilsonr,

I think you're right, I think the 2013 decision date was Jan 31 as well, and they still got theirs early. With any luck we will too...? ;)

I will not obsess. I will not obsess. I will not obsess.
