Does anyone have any advice on how to make a strong letter of intent for Vanderbilt's Nurse residency program? I know they accept a lot of applicants for each cohort but I'm not sure how many people actually apply and how competetive it actually is. If there is anyone on here that is currently in the program, was previously or knows anyone who has gone through the program, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I also was accepted to the Vanderbilt Critical Care Residency. I am very excited and looking forward to meeting everyone. I've lived in nashville for 12 years, moved here actually to attend Vanderbilt undergrad in '97 and after a Bachelor's in Psychology have lived here since!! Funny that I'm now heading back to Vanderbilt for the residency, but am thrilled to be in such a great program and with other people motivated to learn and be their best. If I can do anything for anyone - please let me know. As I was filling out liscensure paperwork this week I was thinking how difficult it must be for those of you moving from out of state. I can't wait to meet ya'll!
Sounds like there might be quite a few Critical Care residents. I wonder if that's related to the new tower. I'm also on the Critical Care Track and am looking forward to making new friends...
Slightly overwhelmed by the out of state thing... and what to do with the house and pets! busy, busy!
Hello everyone,
I know I've personally been in touch with some of you through email, but I just want to say thanks again for all of the support. Everyone has gone above and beyond to help me with the moving process, offering suggestions and welcoming me with open arms. It truly does mean the world to me that everyone is so helpful and nice. It sounds like all of us are in the critical care track, so I can't wait to officially meet all of you and to make some new great friends.
Angel_RN, I am so pleased to hear that you received an offer. And I am also surprised that you weren't chosen before. Either way, you deserve this position and I am so happy that you will be in the program!
Thanks again to everyone, and I know we will be keeping in touch before we all meet in Nashville. I can't wait to get to Tennessee. It's very bittersweet that all of my dreams are coming true, as cliche as that sounds! Talk to you all soon!

anyone moving for the vandy internship looking for a roommate?
I might need a roommate. I'm moving from WA and I will start looking at apartments after thanksgiving. I will be checking out the Bellevue neighborhood but if you have any info about where else to look for apartments/housing I would appreciate it.
thanks!
I read in your post that you were a summer III at the Mayo Clinic. I am applying to the Summer III nursing program at the Mayo clinic. I was wondering if you could tell me if I have a chance at being accepted into the program. I really want to go and I am not sure how I "weigh in" compared to the other applicants.
I am from Boston, MA. Are you more likely to get accepted if you are from MN? Or, is there no preference for in or out of state students?
I also have a 3.4 GPA. And, I work as a PCA for a woman at home. Do you think I have a good chance of getting in? Also, do we only need one reference from clinical faculty?
Any advice that you could provide would be so helpful. This really sounds like an AMAZING opportunity and I am soooo worried that my GPA is too low and that I don't have enough extracurricular activities.
Thanks!!!
Congratulations to all of you who are accepted into the Nurse Residency program!!!
Can I ask what the starting salary for a new grad at Vandy is? I'm considering a move from northern Virginia to Nashville and know that the hourly rate will be very different.
Any information would be helpful.
thank you

NURSE901,
I was number one on the waiting list and ended up getting an offer yesterday. I'm sure I got your spot. I want to personally thank you for your e-mail and for giving me the opportunity to work at Vandy. I wanted this job soooooo bad and because of you I got it.
Charlene,
I also have an Associates and was also very surprised that I was put on the waiting list. My interview went really well and I am already an RN. I worked in an ICU for four months as an RN before I moved to tennessee. My portfolio is filled with accomplishments. I have all my critical care certs (acls, ekg, etc.) And even though i don't have a BSN i have a Bachelors degree in another field. I felt very rejected when I was placed on the waiting list. I have a job already working on a surgical floor at a different hospital but I want to work at vandy. Its truly the cream of the crop when it comes to hospitals around here. Having vandy on your resume looks very good. Also i want to get back into critical care, its my dream. I am very greatful that it ended up working out for me.
For those of you looking for areas to stay in the Nashville area, hendersonville (sumner county) is a great place to live. i live about 25 minutes from vandy. the neighborhood is equivelent to franklin and brentwood but quite a bit cheaper. I am paying $1100 per month for a 3BR, 1400 sq feet apartment with an outstanding kitchen. it is brand new (just opened in july) and has granite counter tops. Its called Adventura at Indian Lakes Village. There is a pool and fitness center onsite. if you search there are photos and virtual tours on forrent.com and rent.com. there are two and one bedroom apartments available also that are obviously cheaper than the 3 bedrooms. its not really a party area over here though. if you want to live in a lively atmosphere you will have to go near vandy or downtown which is expensive.
