Vanderbilt Summer 2020 Nurse Residency

Hey everyone! Just thought I would create a page for us to chat about the upcoming application process and everything that follows! I graduate in May 2020 and am hoping to apply for the CVICU or the adult ED.

Yes. Vanderbilt is highly competitive. A lot of people get waitlisted even for the interview. I work there now and it took me a long time before even getting a chance with them. My coworker who just accepted a NICU position with them from their last residency cohort told me that they really like candidates who have a lot of volunteer experience or have done other leadership things. Especially if you’re interested in a highly seeks out speciality.

Cool, thanks. I don't have time to volunteer right now, but I have unique work experience. I'm a military veteran, former police officer of nine years, and current ER Technician of two years. Also on my school's Student Nurse Association board and will have completed my senior internship in the ED. Hopefully those make me stand out.

Nice! I definitely understand the volunteering thing. Nursing school keeps us busy enough and I’m sure they understand that. They are big on experience especially with it correlating to the specialty you are applying to which sounds like you have a lot of! Good luck to you!!

When you guys submitted your references, do you know if they went to people's spam folders? I know some people have said that their own emails from vanderbilt like the second part of the application went to their spam but I'm not sure about the references. Only two of my references have responded and it's been over a week, so I'm not sure if I should resend the email or email them separately and tell them to check their spam ?

Also, it sounds like there's a few of us that put NICU first, that's so cool!! Good luck to you guys, I hope we all get interviews ?

A fellow ED tech! How exciting! I had to quit due to nursing school but I love the ER. I applied to the NICU as my first choice though. Good luck on your journey!

All of my references went through I suggest sending a separate email to your reference and verify that they have received it as well as check their spam folders. Good luck to you ask well!!

Hello all! I am applying from Florida. I already completed Step 1, just waiting on instructions for Step 2. My top choices will be NICU, L&D, and Mom/Baby Obstetrics.

All of my references finally responded (if anyone is having issues with people not responding, I think the first email went to spam so I resent the automated email and they all responded that day. So I'd try that if you're having trouble!) so my application is complete! I guess they start scheduling interviews at the end of February, right? And that's if you even get an interview lol. Also, I'm from Washington D.C. so I really don't know a ton about Vanderbilt- does anyone know what new grad pay is like?

Hi. Do you know how much Vanderbilt pays and how much Tristar Centennial pays? Not exclusively basing this decision on money but it would be nice to know. I also applied to Centennial and Skyline.

I don't know specific numbers but I know Centennial pays a little more and has like relocation assistance and helps with student loans. All of their benefits are very tempting but I really wanna work at Vanderbilt haha.

Centennial is the first hospital I applied for, interviewed and received an offer for. Even though I currently work at Vandy, Vandy is still my top choice. Centennial offered me 24.15 base pay, 3.50 for nights and 2.00 for weekends differentials

Are these hospitals pretty difficult to get jobs at? I’m coming from San Diego where some people apply for jobs for over a year without any luck. Not sure how the job market is in the Nashville area.

The market is much much better than in cali. You will get a job it just might not always be your first hospital choice.

Hi! I applied for PICU, Peds Critical Care, and Peds Acute Care. The application only asks for work, volunteer, and leadership experience from the last 6 months so I already feel like I am at a disadvantage, but we will see!

Does anyone know base pay for Vandy?
