Vanderbilt Summer 2020 Nurse Residency

Updated:   Published

Hey everyone! Just thought I would create a page for us to chat about the upcoming application process and everything that follows! I graduate in May 2020 and am hoping to apply for the CVICU or the adult ED.

Hey everyone, just about to submit my references! waiting on one last one. I ended up putting MICU first, then adult critical care, peds critical care and then peds acute

Hi everyone!

I applied to Pediatric Oncology as my first choice. Just waiting on references to come through and I'll be able to submit!

Hey everyone! I'm applying and my top track choice is Peds float pool! I had an externship where I was on the float staff at a big hospital where I floated to a lot of adult units, and while I loved it, I wish I could have worked with pediatric patients more often. I'm also applying to CHOA and Erlanger children's hospital in Chatt. I'm thinking of applying to Tristar Centennial Children's as well bc of their loan repayment program and bc they pay a little better, but I'm trying not to let money influence my decisions too much, because working somewhere where people are nice and truly care about their jobs and are willing to teach me is really important to me as well haha.

Hi everyone! I'm graduating in May and absolutely love Nashville and Vanderbilt (although I live in Washington DC) so I decided to apply! I just sent in my initial application on Friday and put the NICU as my top choice. Just to be clear, do they email you with the second part of the application if they think you're a good candidate? In the email I got after I submitted the first part, it just says they're reviewing my experience and qualifications. I honestly didn't even know there was a second part so I'm really glad I found this thread!

Hi everyone! I'm waiting for one more reference before I can submit. I'm really hoping we can keep each other updated through this forum. I put NICU as my top choice, 2nd as Peds critical, and 3rd as Adult critical.

Good luck to everyone!

Hi. Do you know how much Vanderbilt pays and how much Tristar Centennial pays? Not exclusively basing this decision on money but it would be nice to know. I also applied to Centennial and Skyline.

Hello everyone!

I don't know if anyone else encountered this but I am a bit confused about the different components of the application process. I know that off of their website there is the two-step application but when I Google the application I found this website:

https://www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/vanderbiltnursing/nrp/

and this leads me to the portion where the letter of intent, recommendations etc. get uploaded. Is this part two of the application? Do I even need to wait for them to email me after filling out part one?

Any help would be appreciated ?

I'll be applying too from San Diego, CA. Applying for ED only, currently working as an ED Tech and ED is the only unit I want to work!

Hey Karlye!

That is the second portion of the application, they are supposed to email you like 48 hour after you submit the first half with a link to the second portion with a ton of instructions. I'm not sure if you have to wait for them to send you the link or not though, I did. The email you get with the link to the second half comes in an email that went directly to my spam folder, but an HR rep from vandy emailed me as well and that email went to my main so I could find the other one. I guess I would wait until Monday maybe and see if they send you the instructions by then? Def check your spam folders though just in case it went there!

Hope this helped!! ?

Does anyone know if this is a pretty competitive new grad program to get into? I'm from California, so I'm not sure what the market is like in TN.

Yes. Vanderbilt is highly competitive. A lot of people get waitlisted even for the interview. I work there now and it took me a long time before even getting a chance with them. My coworker who just accepted a NICU position with them from their last residency cohort told me that they really like candidates who have a lot of volunteer experience or have done other leadership things. Especially if you’re interested in a highly seeks out speciality.
