Vanderbilt 2020 Pre Specialty

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

I am making a post for all programs I am applying for that I have not seen thus far. I have been going into rabbit holes of previous year's posts for schools I am applying for. Vanderbilt has been my top choice since I decided to go into direct entry nursing the end of my sophomore year of college, so it seems only fitting to make a post for it. I am applying for the PMNHP specialty and look forward to reading posts and getting to know everyone!

Hi everyone! I’m applying this year for CNM/FNP dual specialty. I applied in 2017 before graduating college, but unfortunately didn’t get past the interview stage. Happy to be here and hopefully meet you!

Hi! So you applied 2 years ago and now this is the 2nd time you've applied? Did you apply to any other programs? This is my first time applying and I am hoping to get in this round!

Hi! I applied to the FNP program last year and was waitlisted. I was accepted to Emory University's AMSN program, my second choice, and deferred my acceptance to 2020 in order to reapply to Vanderbilt PreSpecialty.

I am really hoping to get in this cycle, but luckily I have another good option if I don't. I was still in my senior year of college when I applied, so I don't mind taking a gap year to make money (these programs are sooooo expensive...). Anyone else reapplying?

Hi! I am applying to the FNP track as well, but I am direct entry. Do you mind if I ask why you were waitlisted? Did you apply by the priority deadline? I am just trying to get some insight on how competitive this program really is.

Yes! I applied to Vanderbilt, Yale, Marquette, Johns Hopkins, and Belmont University's ABSN program. I got into a few of those, but after I did, I realized that I really just wanted Vanderbilt. So I chose to take a couple of years off, get some experience, and re-apply.

I suspect it's because I submitted my application 11/28, way after priority deadline. I was also still taking A&P 2 at the time of application and while they got to see my A in A&P 1, that second class was not reviewed. I called the admissions office and went to open house, and it seems like I have a much better chance this year because of these things. I also now have additional medical assistant experience... so fingers crossed lol. Good luck to you too!!

Btw, I see your username says BSN - can I ask why you're applying direct entry if you already have a BSN if that's the case?

Oh ok! I thought about Yale as well. I have experience as a phlebotomist and diagnostic assistant at a Free Medical Clinic so I am hoping with experience will way heavily on applications!

I visited Yale for interviews, and they did a sort-of open house at the same time. And I have to say, their program is really amazing as well! Definitely worth looking into. ?

I came across this girl's blog with tons of info on Vanderbilt's program, answers some questions about the program and gives insight into the experience. Might be helpful for you guys to check out too! https://sincerelyangie.blog/

Hi everyone! I am also applying. I was wondering if anyone knows when decisions are supposed to be released for the prespecialty program, especially if you apply before the priority deadline?

I saw @AmyS4 say that they said Mid February for decisions and that is for both the direct entry and prespecialty programs. That is pretty consistent with previous year's forums and they are pretty firm in the fact that it will not be available before that, no matter when you turned it in. I think they just pay attention to if you have everything in by the 1st since it is rolling basis. They just start with people who have their materials in by the 1st and go from there. So essentially, we have a long wait between now and Valentine's day or the week after. A student who was admitted said on another thread they did not recieve notifications until feb 22
