Vanderbilt Pre-specialty Fall 2011

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi all!

I just wanted to get a thread started for those who plan on applying to Vanderbilt's prespecialty (for non-nurses) MSN program. I only recently discovered this program about 2 months ago and am absolutely enamored with it! I plan to apply to 8 schools for this cycle, but Vanderbilt is at the very top of my list. I am looking into FNP, which has the distance option. I am not sure whether or not I would prefer to stay at Vanderbilt for the whole program, but I do like that there is the option.

Aside from finishing up micro this summer and taking the GRE in a month, I am fully ready to apply. Just need the application for 2011 to open up!:lol2:

Anyone else?

Imac10,

I think I mailed my application November 25...pretty sure they received everything by December 1. GPA was 3.7 from Lamar University, GRE 1220 with 4.5 on writing. No RN experience though.

Specializes in ICU, CCU, Private Duty.

I'm waitlisted for ACNP. Called today 'cause I just couldn't stand it anymore! =) The admissions person I spoke to said that waitlist letters were just getting ready to roll out for this specialty. Since I will be moving with three little bodies, we are still making plans to move to Nashville. Worst case scenario, we spend the next year getting to know Nashville and re-apply next year!

Has anybody gotten any info regarding the waitlist? Do they give out information about how many people are on the waitlist... how many typically move off of the waitlist... that sort of info? I sent admissions an email but haven't heard back...

I called today and I was told I was accepted into the Fall 2011 ACNP program. This is a post-MSN certificate for me. Good luck everyone!

I called today and I was excepted yippy!:yeah:

I applyed late to the Emergency Room NP program. FYI my app on line still shows nothing of being excepted.

Good luck to all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone know of a thread for post BSN people starting fall 2011?

Thanks

i got in in for peds primary care but will be turning it down so hopefully this opens up a spot for someone on the waitlist for peds. good luck!

I was waitlisted as well and would really like some stats about their waitlist procedure and how many people typically move from waitlist to accepted so if anyone has any info, please share!! thanks and good luck to everyone still waiting :)

Specializes in Pediatrics.

@gohs: Not sure which specialty you applied to but I applied to Peds (Primary) when I called to ask I was told that the procedure usually goes like this.....

There are about 15 people on the waitlist. Each year they typically pull anywhere from 1-4 people from the waitlist. The list is not ranked so whenever someone rejects the committee reconvenes to review all the waitlisted applications and then makes a decision about who to offer the open slot to. They notify you be phone call if you've been pulled off the waitlist. Typically slots will open up mid-late March when people initially decline. Then they will open up again in mid-April after people receive financial aid offers and decide is too expensive for them.

Thanks for the info T-Dasha! Very helpful!

T-dasha,

Where did you get the waitlist info? I called and they wouldnt release any information about how many or how they choose who gets the spots from the waitlist. I applied for FNP. Hopefully we luck out!

They're definitely telling folks different things. :uhoh3: I'm also on the waitlist for FNP (will be a BSN grad before 's program starts) and when I called yesterday, I was given my no. on the waitlist. I'm seriously hoping more than 4 spots open up on the waitlist for FNP....otherwise, I'm pretty much SOL.

C'est la vie.
